COVER STORY: PHILADELPHIA (PA) ALUMNI SENIOR KAPPAS
A: My advice to new members of our Fraternity is that be active, get en- gaged, find a place in the fraternity you can offer service and do it with passion and commitment – so they will say of you, you served the fraternity well. In my 22 years in the fraternity, I have missed less than five fraternity meet- ings – let this be a model for you.
Q: How do you feel about Philadelphia (PA) Alumni hosting the 84 th Grand Chapter Meeting? A: Philadelphia is hosting the Grand Chapter Meeting at the most opportune time in the history of the City and the Fraternity because the International Headquarters is here – it is always an honor for the city where the Interna- tional Headquarters is located to host the Grand Chapter Meeting. The City is so very proud to show off along with the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter – this was the birthplace of the nation and the birthplace of the US Constitution and the birthplace of the American Flag – so we are so very proud to be the host of the 84 th Grand Chapter Meeting.
Q: What do you love most about Phila- delphia? A: I love that this is where the nation started, where the constitution was writ- ten and this is the place that should be the model for how Democracy works. I was pleased to serve as Mayor in 1987 when the Bi-Centennial of the Constitu- tion was celebrated. It occurred to me at that movement, that 200 years before all my ancestors were slaves so this City represents a model of government where the formal descendent of a slave can be mayor a city and helped celebrate its 200 anniversary. Q: What advice to you have for neo- phytes about service in Kappa Alpha Psi?
