Finishing up the month of May, we are off to a solid start for the golf course cultivation maintenance practices. To date, we have verti-cut (de- thatch) heavy all tees and fairways, aerified all fairways and approaches with a Toro

1296 rental machine, and groomed and top-dressed the greens weekly. Most recently, we are in the process of verti-cutting most of the rough, vacuuming up the thatch, and cutting it down from a 1.5- inch height of cut to 1.25-inch, and eventually down to 1 inch. This will promote improved density and smoother surface of the rough going forward. Additionally, we completed a “disked - in” fipronil application to all tees, fairways, and collars/approaches for season long mole cricket and fire ant control. Aerification of all tees and verti-cutting of collars and approaches are on deck for the coming weeks. We continue our “Bimini” grass contamination - removal project on the greens that will proceed throughout most of summer as time and manpower allow. All of the palm and hardwood trees on the golf course have been trimmed as required. My Assistant Stacey Long, Equipment Technician Jerry Fender, and I became OSHA Level 2 Certified Spill Response Operators. In addition, I attended both an FTGA (Florida Turfgrass Association) and Everglades Superintendent Chapter Golf Course Turf Maintenance symposiums for education, training and CEU acquisition required for my Commercial Pesticide Applicators License and GCSAA Class “A” status membership.

Grounds Department Bruce Zergott, Grounds Manager

We have just about completed the hardwood tree trimmings. Palm tree trimming is about two weeks out. Grounds crew is still removing palm stumps from around the property. La Jungla Lawn Maintenance is doing a great job maintaining the condition of our property.

Grounds did a 3-inch sprinkler line repair under the pavement at the entrance of Pine Glade Circle. Tim from Maintenance did a great job cutting out the pavements.
