WHAT DOES DENTAL AFTERCAR
5 Steps You Should Follow
Over the past few editions, we’ve discussed the benefits of dental implants, what services you can receive, and answered frequently asked questions. But we have yet to talk about the aftercare around dental implants. After installing your dental implants, following a few strategies, like the five listed here, is essential to ensure they remain in good shape until your mouth is healed. USE A SOFT-BRISTLED TOOTHBRUSH. You should brush your teeth carefully twice a day after installing dental implants. However, it’s important to use a soft-bristled toothbrush because it reduces the amount of wear to your teeth. It can also prevent scratching and other damage to your implants. After brushing, inspect your implants and teeth to spot damages early on. This will ensure that any additional repairs are done quickly. USE A WATER FLOSSER INSTEAD OF STRING FLOSS. If you don’t know what a water flosser is, it’s a tool that provides a stream of pulsating water to help dislodge harmful particles from your teeth, which will keep your teeth (and implants) cleaner and in better condition. WHY ARE MY TEETH SENSITIVE?
AVOID ABRASIVE INGREDIENTS. Pay attention to what ingredients are in your oral products to ensure your dental implants remain in good condition. When you choose your toothpaste, be sure it doesn’t contain baking soda and stain removal ingredients.
Sometimes, you may want
an ice-cold drink or treat to refresh and cool yourself. But then you feel a sharp pain in your mouth as soon as the cold substance hits your teeth. Or, you may want to eat or drink something to warm yourself up but experience the same tooth pain. The discomfort can be inconvenient and prevent you from enjoying your food! But why are your teeth sensitive, and how can you treat them? WHAT CAUSES TEETH TO BE SENSITIVE? You’re brushing your teeth too hard. While it may seem that brushing your teeth vigorously will clean them better, it will actually do the opposite. When you brush too hard or use a hard-bristled toothbrush, you can wear down your enamel — and enamel cannot be regrown. Without enamel, the dentin and nerves in your teeth are not protected, which can cause sensitivity. You may be over-whitening your teeth. If you use teeth whitening strips — whether you get them from your local store or your dentist — you can experience temporary or permanent teeth sensitivity. This is because the pores in your enamel open so the whitening treatment can reach the dentin. If you experience sensitivity after whitening, it should go away. But if you whiten your teeth frequently, it can cause prolonged sensitivity.
You may have additional reasons for tooth sensitivity. These include gum disease, cavities, tooth decay, broken or chipped teeth, teeth grinding, loose fillings, and eating or drinking acidic foods often. A dentist can help you identify the issue. HOW CAN YOU TREAT TOOTH SENSITIVITY? If your tooth sensitivity is mild, you can try several over-the-counter treatments that may help. These include desensitizing toothpaste, alcohol-free mouthwash, and soft-bristle toothbrushes. However, if your sensitivity remains after using over-the-counter treatments for a week, contact your dentist and schedule an appointment. Your dentist can perform several procedures like dental bonding, fluoride varnishes, and dentin sealers. Your dentist can also provide additional recommendations on how you can reduce your tooth sensitivity and other causes for your discomfort. So, call your dentist’s office today! Your teeth will thank you for it.
