Planning for the Future: Twin Cities PBS Investing in Digital Transformation and Technology Upgrades

As the media industry evolves, Twin Cities PBS (TPT) is taking bold strides by investing in digital transformation and broadcast technology to revolutionize its outreach and impact.

Even though digital streaming technology often takes center stage, TPT remains steadfast in its commitment to broadcast technology. While media trends show that more viewers are consuming media through streaming, we know that many of our viewers still rely on broadcast. This is why we are making a significant investment in our broadcast technology. The antenna replacement we undertook this summer ensures that TPT will continue to reach current viewers with broadcast programming. It will also allow us to transition to NextGen TV, the next generation of digital TV technology. NextGen TV will increase TPT’s ability to enhance the visual appeal of our programs and provide a more personalized viewing experience for audience members with smart TVs. A hallmark of TPT's technology investment is its focus on data-driven strategies. Embracing cutting-edge analytics tools, the organization gained valuable insights into viewer preferences, behavior patterns, and content performance. This invaluable data- driven approach enabled TPT to make informed decisions regarding technology investments, while planning for a future where we can personalize the viewing experience for our audience. As the media landscape continues to evolve, TPT remains firmly committed to shaping the future of broadcasting and streaming, redefining how public media organizations engage with their audiences.

TPT is committed to delivering content to its viewers anywhere, anytime. This commitment is at the heart of our participation in the Digital Transformation Program. TPT is among 75 media stations across the country selected to participate in the joint CPB and Poynter Institute’s program to educate, assist, and coach stations on the best strategies and tactics to transform their organization’s digital operations and culture. Through the program, we have built a team of content, marketing, data and evaluation, and revenue leaders who are reimagining how we work together differently in service to our strategic vision to support holistic digital innovation.
