F rom home winemaker to award-winning this dry, fruity and versatile wine was also a winner of silver medals at the Experience Rosé Wine Competition, Sonoma County Harvest Fair and San Francisco Wine Competition. McCarter’s Pinkish Rosé is a saignée of pinot noir that was barrel fermented in neutral oak at a cool temperature—wonderful to enjoy on its own or paired with a meal. McCarter Cellars’ 2022 Pinkish Rosé of Pinot Noir is not only a readers’ choice favorite— McCarter has been making wines for 12 years (starting in his garage where he was already receiving accolades from amateur home winemaker competitions); his new, small, Black-owned winery was only established in 2022. “I am honored and surprised that my wine was chosen. McCarter finds it important to give back to the community and serves as a board member of the Sonoma County Public Library Foundation. In his role with the nonprofit organization, he initiated a “Tasting Diversity” program, a collaboration with the foundation, the Sonoma County Library and the Sonoma County Wine Library Association. This year he is helping to organize and pour for the Tasting Diversity Event Juneteenth Celebration, which will honor Black winemakers in the Sonoma County wine industry and pay tribute to Mac Macdonald of Vision Cellars. This year, McCarter will be releasing his 2023 Pinkish Rosé of Pinot Noir and has plans to continue making more rosé, zinfandel and pinot noir.
