N ot only is Exchange Bank being inducted this year into the inaugural Best of the North Bay Hall of Fame—elevated in the Business Bank category—but it has also been recognized as the Best Consumer Bank as well as Best Company in Sonoma County. Perhaps the key to winning Best Consumer Bank is the fact that when patrons walk in, they feel welcomed and taken care of. That’s because this bank has happy, invested employees who like being there. Troy Sanderson, president and CEO of Exchange Bank, grew up in the area and couldn’t wait to find a position at this popular local bank. “When you work for a company that has

we have of giving back and really trying to be an important part of the community.” That culture of giving back began early-on at Exchange Bank. Since 1949, over 140,000 Santa Rosa Junior College students, including Sanderson, have received over $100 million in scholarship money from the bank’s Doyle Trust, bequeathed from the estate of bank co-founder Frank Doyle. Sanderson sits on the board of the Redwood Empire Food Bank, and the Santa Rosa Junior College Foundation. He says that they’ve also got people all over Sonoma County at various nonprofit organizations logging impressive volunteer hours beyond those leadership roles. “It’s part of the culture of the bank,” he says. “That’s just part of what we do.” Sanderson says he is proud of all the accomplishments of both the bank and its employees. He says winning awards like Best Consumer Bank feels great because it means the community also sees all that they are doing and are honoring them for it. v

community, I think that shows,” Sanderson says. “I believe that our community can see in our employees not just the dedication to the job, but the culture that
