W hen an engineering firm fact, according to our readers, ZFA Structural Engineers is the Best Engineering Firm in the North Bay. Part of this success is due to the diversity of the work that ZFA does—no project is too big nor too small. “It’s helped us in terms of stability and resilience of the company to stay in business for 50 years,” says Kevin Zucco, ZFA’s executive principal. “It’s really great that we get to offer all those kinds of opportunities to our staff.” has been successful for half a century, you know they must be on to something. Zucco says he loves the opportunity to talk about his team. “I’ve been here for 30 years and one of the things that I really value about working at ZFA is the team and the people we’ve developed that have stayed with us,” he says. “It’s been great to empower them and watch them grow into leadership positions. “Ingrained in our culture is a digging in and finding the best holistic solution for the project or for the challenges within the project,” Zucco says. “We take a lot of pride in working with architects, contractors and owners—taking their input and implementing it in what we do to try and get to that best solution.” ZFA is also helping lead the way in fire-resilient designs and has

resistant to fire. “We did a really neat building at Sonoma Raceway called Turn 11,” Zucco says when asked about his favorite projects. He also mentions projects at Stanley Ranch and Paradise Ridge and says they’ve just finished the design for Santa Rosa Fire Station 5. ZFA contributes to several local nonprofits like the Redwood Empire Food Bank. It helps to support local math and science education through the Mike Hauser Academy. The firm is also helping to open doors for future engineers by providing scholarships through 10,000 Degrees, targeting them for the engineering industry and offering recipients mentorship work. One of the nonprofits ZFA works closely with is Rebuilding Together. “We actually go out and rebuild houses and fences and do whatever folks need if they aren’t able to do it themselves,” Zucco says. Zucco says the award fills him with pride. “I’m just so proud of our leadership and proud of the team,” Zucco says. “We have a really fun group. It’s nice to be recognized that way, both from people who work with us and then people who’ve seen our work. It’s a great feeling and I’m very, very proud of the team.” v
