Philip Payne is a leading UK brand of Emergency Lighting and exit signage favoured by many top architects and building designers with reference projects including: The Royal Opera House, Wembley Stadium, the Shard and the Qatar National Conference Centre. Philip Payne recognise that most Emergency Exit Signage products are designed with function in mind and that many building designs can be compromised by mis-selection of emergency product. Philip Payne always attempt to meet design aspirations and legal prerequisites by delivering quality product on time and on budget.

All products are manufactured in our Solihull factory and many are exported for use on projects around the world and many of these countries require third party approval. There are a number of international bodies acceptable to various authorities and Civil Defence departments across the world, but amongst the most recognisable of these is the Kitemark which is a product quality certification mark owned and operated by BSI (British Standards Institution) and is best known to identify products where safety is paramount. The Philip Payne collection contains many products that have been extensively tested by BSI in their laboratories to gain the Kitemark and Civil Defence compliance certificates.

ARCHITECTURAL RANGE

Designed to add to design, the Architectural range will complement the architects vision. The Architectural range is the evolution of the original Payne range. The featured satin chrome finish, will complement most contemporary environments. The range can be supplied in a collection of polished and antique finishes. Rescaled for a more modern look originally the range was supplied in a simple white finish and whilst still popular Payne can and have supplied the range in a myriad of RAL paint finishes to suit any client requirement.

The original Philip Payne FC was one of, if not the first slot or ‘blade’ fitting to be made.

Plagiarism is the highest form of flattery with many variations on this theme reaching the market since its launch. The original has been re-dimensioned and re engineered many times. However, the essential design of fixed void bracketry and a demountable gear section remains unchanged, making installation and maintenance as simple as ever. As with all Philip Payne products the FC is LED with options for self contained or central battery and controls for monitored systems. Trim-plates are available in all the Payne finishes.

The original Philip Payne FC was one of, if not the first slot or ‘blade’ fitting to be made. But now Philip Payne have adapted one of their bestselling ranges to further augment the architectural and aesthetic appeal of the original FC range. Subtle mechanical changes and the addition of 25mm printed panel provides a facelift to the ever popular 250FC that ensures this new variant further complements the most modern of designed spaces. As with all Philip Payne products the 250FB is LED with options for self-contained or central battery and controls for monitored systems. Trim-plates are available in all the Payne finishes.

The 250DW offers clean architectural lines.

Its versatility ensures the 250DW remains one of Payne’s best sellers. It can be mounted above the door but the slim profile also makes it possible to mount the product to the side of high feature doors whilst remaining compliant with the statutory mounting height. Rear or top cable entry provides options where surface conduit is required although the geometry of the product lends itself to concealed cable entry particularly in stairwell mounting situations. The wide variety of available finishes has seen the product extensively used in theatre and cinema applications.

Conventional down-facing signs can cause conflicts with door opening requirements. The ability to invert the product and the accompanying graphics provides a simple but effective solution. Largely fixed to frames and mullions the product can be finished to suit most architectural glazing surrounds and ironmongery.

The 250CM can be fixed directly to the ceiling or suspended using a versatile rod suspension kit. Payne have always favoured rods over the more commonly used chain suspension method as this provides superior rigidity and appearance. All rod kits are colour coordinated with the CM covers which are available in all Payne finishes. The standard rod kit comes with 12.5mm rods through which mains cables are fed directly into the sign. Batteries if not centrally located are housed inside the CM enclosure.

The visibility of any sign is crucial for it to be effective.

Although explicit in most local standards this can present a real problem to designers to ensure a safety sign is clearly within peoples normal viewing range. The side option provides a direct fix to the vertical plane particularly useful in Atriums and other high ceiling applications.

The Philip Payne Mini Cylinder offers compact, sleek and curved lines to any architectural space. This ‘LED only’ range with comprehensive options of mounting has the full spectrum of modern emergency control/test options and a first fix installation benefit. It is quick to install as it can be fully wired at the first fix/decorating stage leaving the legend and body assembly to be simply plugged in with no tools required.

The Mini Cylinder can be wall mounted or ceiling mounted with self contained or central battery back up for the LED light-source. The Ceiling mounted product has a short drop designed for conventional ceilings although factory adaptations are available to extend these to client requirements. In ornate high ceiling environments with the correct finish applied, this allows what becomes an unobtrusive item to be suspended into view to permit safe egress in an emergency situation. With the addition of a rotated graphic the standard ceiling product can be turned through 90° to create a “Bus stop” sign. This is particular useful in high ceiling corridors or concourses where ceiling mounting can be challenging and where the evacuation plan can be complicated.

Derived from the Classic and Mini Cylinder ranges, the Mini CF has fully self contained LED control gear placed on a removable gear tray for easy mains connection.

As the gear is integral the range is suitable for extended suspension drops.

The Mini CF has been much utilised by designers where high ceiling heights or installation difficulties pose problems.

The product comes with a standard 500mm rod suspension kit which can be cut on site to suit exact requirements.

Extended or custom lengths are available to factory order if required.

When the original Cylinder range was designed, with its use of rods in place of chain, it truly changed the notion of suspended exit signage. New options opened up for designers who had long feared the obstacles arising from high ceilings where wall mounting opportunities were limited.

SUPER7 RANGE

Super7 combines exciting design lines with installation simplicity. Moulded in PC/ABS, the Super7 clips together easily and quickly, resulting in rapid installation. A first fix option permits the installer to complete mains (and data) wiring before decoration. Removal of the outer cover exposes the battery, providing simple maintenance.

The reason that the Classic Seven range remains so popular in commercial and retail applications is simple – it’s versatility. Every mounting is covered by a family of products. Originally a T5 lamp product range the Classic Seven is now supplied exclusively LED.

The snap-together construction insures there are no visible fixings providing very simple styling.

It is supplied complete with 4 recessing brackets that work with most wall types. The injection moulded body permits simple installation / maintenance, the legend fixing moulding results in no visible fixings which creates a floating visual for minimal impact. The ARCA plus incorporates a legend frame to accentuate the “floating effect” in a range of environments. The body is available in white or grey to coordinate with frame options and décor. When surface mounted the product has a further option of a single LED downlighter to supplement emergency schemes or provide extra vertical emergency illuminance required for higher risk task/ areas called for in BS5266-10 such as push bars and secured exits.

Originally designed to blend into a wall made of rods for a prestige building project in London, the SR can be wall (flag) mounted or ceiling mounted. The surface box has a low profile away from surface on which is mounted which when matched to its environment makes it attractive to designers if recessing is problematic.

The high pressure die cast aluminium head common to all MF100 products offers a striking profile that provides a real architectural alternative on building exteriors. Other commodity solutions, often in the shape of polycarbonate boxes are used to meet the final exit requirement of British and European standards spoiling the outside view of many well designed construction projects.

coated in our factory to match most exteriors, mullions, brickwork and painted exterior walls.

The range has been extended to provide increased power in emergency applications by the in house design of a multi LED light engine that provides 485 Lumens in mains operation and 190 lumens when the mains fails. This is ideal for multi occupancy residential schemes where mains lighting is required for security but where in a mains failure some assistance with emergency egress is essential. The range also contains a high output mains version providing 522 lumens ideal on external applications where weatherproof illumination may be required for security such as cash points. A die cast conduit mounting kit has been added to the range to overcome surface cabling issues available in black as standard but can be supplied to match colour variations specified in the main body.

Moving away from lead acid battery chemistry, the 2-NI combines state of the art twin LED emergency technology from a single gear set with a more acceptably dimensioned body resulting in statutory compliance in open areas with fewer, smaller, neater emergency units. An IP rated version incorporating a Polycarbonate enclosure with gasketed heads is available for areas where ingress of moisture or particles is an issue. The twin rotational head arrangement allows multi direction egress lighting from a single point which is easier on the eye than has been historically possible.

The Arca Medical range provides three new options for medical and general signage applications, offering a new dimension in conveying warnings or other information using energy efficient and low maintenance LED’s. Available with single or twin illuminating compartments the product can be recessed or surface mounted with a choice of two bezels for a range of applications. The shallow bezel can be used on semi recessed and surface versions applications whilst the full depth cover provides a more conventional medical enclosure appearance. With modern testing and reporting options, the various Specto solutions identify and resolve all of the issues that arise in providing and efficient, legally compliant emergency installation, visually or via email alerts and web access.

Hard wired SpectoWeb or wireless SpectoXT

significantly reduce the cost and time required to maintain a compliant system by automating the testing process to the requirements of local standards. Both systems continually monitor for faults, checking every connected emergency luminaire or exit sign. If a luminaire/sign develops a fault, an error is indicated locally at the luminaire and centrally at controller points alerting defined users by email. Requiring no additional wiring, SpectoXT simplifies the installation as all communication back to the gateway is from fitting-to-fitting on a wireless mesh. Both Web and XT provide ‘anywhere visibility’ of system health on access controlled secure websites via smartphone, tablet or PC.
