Don’t miss the tail-wagging fun! Wagoween is a Halloween costume contest for dogs with celebrity judges for a pawsitive cause. The event is unleashed on Second Sunday every October. Watch the courageous K9 Unit of the Charleston Police Department demonstrate how it keeps our city safe and meet Watson and Holmes , the hero horses of the Mounted Patrol. Proceeds benefit The LENS Foundation’s support of the Charleston Police Department's K9 unit and critical public safety initiatives.

Wagging For a Worthy Cause
Wagoween’s real winner is Charleston. Last year’s event enabled the LENS Foundation to provide funding for K9 Luther, named in honor of the late Charleston Police Chief Luther Reynolds. It costs over $25,000 to purchase, train and equip each K9. In addition, most handling officers adopt their retiring partners and shoulder the cost of caring for the dogs when they become the most expensive. K9 officers perform the dangerous work of narcotics sweeps and track and locate crime suspects and fugitives. These brave dogs keep our city safe while enabling peaceful outcomes.
