Anne James has recently taken up the position of Professor and Head of Computing and Technology at NTU. She aims to ensure that the department maintains its excellent record in producing highly-skilled, creative graduates, ready and eager to develop innovative solutions for society. Cybersecurity, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence are all hot areas in IT these days yielding many exciting opportunities for our graduates. Anne’s vision is to create excellent links with industry to inform curriculum design and further develop opportunities for student placement whilst engaging in mutually beneficial knowledge transfer. She also aims to ensure that the department remains at the forefront of research, creating new knowledge, in cutting-edge computer science fields such as Computational Intelligence, Cognitive Robotics, Cybersecurity and Virtual Reality. Computing and Technology at NTU combines internationally significant research with an outstanding record for teaching excellence. Our state-of-the-art facilities and career-focused approach to course design provide the right conditions for students to succeed in their chosen field. Our undergraduate and postgraduate courses are designed to be industrially relevant with the right balance of theory and practice. We teach our students to be technically strong, creative and future proof for the world of work, or further study, resulting in exceptional success in securing high quality industrial placements and high graduate employability. All our degrees are accredited by the BCS (British Computer Society).

Going on a placement is an invaluable experience for our students. In Computing we recognise the value of a placement year for our students’ knowledge, experience and future employability. Over the years we have built relationships with hundreds of companies, both at home and abroad, and have a fully dedicated team to ensure students are supported before, during and after their placement.
