JUNIOR KING'S BUSINESS

When Rodney

Went Heme

by Nancy Galitzen (A True Story) T he hospital corridors became quiet as the night’s magic power of sleep crept across the sixth and seventh floors of the Children’s Hospital. All were asleep, tucked in their little white hospital beds. But one bed was empty. It was Rodney’s. Did he go home with his parents? No! This was the day he entered his heavenly home to live with the Lord Jesus forever. T .......... ; ............................................Y Earlier in the day Rodney had spoken to his Mother telling her in his confident, childlike way, “ Please don’t cry about me, I’m going to be with Jesus.” Mother brushed aside her tears. She loved her little son. She remem bered when they had first brought him to the Bellevue Hospital as a small child some eight long years ago, hoping to find a cure for his sickness. But doctors, shaking their heads, had declared, “ There is no remedy for this sickness.” So the parents were obliged to leave him in the hospital for treatments to re lieve him of pain and suffering.

However, there was a cure for Rod ney’s sickness of sin. One day the Chaplain of the hospital explained this to Rodney. He told him the story of the Lord Jesus who, when He was here upon earth, said, “ Suf fer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not.” The Chap lain then gave Rodney the precious verse of scripture, Rev. 3:20, which reads as follows: “ If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I"will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” “ Beep, Beep,” went Rodney’s toot ing horn on his wheel chair as he rode up and down the hospital cor ridor. “ I’m going to be a doctor when I grow up,” he called out to the nurse as he passed by her desk. “ Hi, Rodney,” said the Doctor, grinning from ear to ear. “My, you look happy today. What has caused your eyes to be so shining bright?” “ Jesus came into my heart today,” replied Rodney. “What?” “Jesus came into my heart, and took my sins away.” “ He did?” replied the Doctor. “Yep. And He can come into your heart too. He loves you. Only you have to ask Him. Have you invited Jesus into your heart, right here?” And Rodney thumped on his chest to show Doctor Gray. “ No, Rodney, I haven’t.” “Well, you’d better, if you want to go to heaven.” “ Beep, Beep,” went Rodney’s horn on down the corridors. Mother came that day, and Rodney told her about Jesus, and that He

was his own very dear friend and that he could talk to Him any time in prayer. “ I’m His child too. He loves me, and He washed my sins away. I am very happy because I’m going to heaven someday. Mother, I love Jesus,” said the little fellow earnestly. He went on sadly, “ But Mommy, I am sad about something. Chaplain Brenner said only people who ask Jesus to come into their hearts will be in heaven. Will you be there?” Mother tried to understand, but she couldn’t. “ I don’t see how Jesus saves, but I’m glad Rodney you are happy.” She tried hard to hold back her tears because she longed so that Rodney’s little body would be healed. One o f Rodney’s brothers came to see him that same day. While the two played with tinker toys, building different things, Rodney told his brother Henry about Jesus. There was a puzzled look on the brother’s bright face. “ I *don’t understand,” he seemed to say. “ All you have to do,” said Rod ney, “ is bow your head and say: ‘Dear Jesus, please come into my heart. Save me from my sins,’ and believe.” So Henry understood and became God’s child too. When the Chaplain visited Rod ney, the days were bright for both ANSWERS ^uioucuainap jaqjsa l|eiujag9f I3<>! qejpego SnD|4|A9| sui-jesd
