SUMERPARABLE Now it came to pass that, as the time of vacation drew near, a certain member of the church bethought him of cool streams where fish were found, and his children thought .of sandy beaches by the sea, and his wife thought of the mountains. And this church member spoke and said: “Lo, the hot days come and my work lieth heavy upon me. Come, let us depart and go where fishes do bite, and where the cool winds bring refresh ment and the land is beautiful about us.” “Thou speakest words of wisdom,” said his wife, “ yet three, nay, even four, things must we do ere we go.” “Three things think I of, but not a fourth,” said her husband, “that we ask our neighbor to minister unto our flowers, that we arrange for our grass to be mowed and watered, that UPON SECOND THOUGHT . . . "Angry?" I winced and clenched my fists. "Pray, who has more reason to be?" " I," said a whispering, comforting Voice, "The Lord of Gethsemane." (The Lord of the thorns and the nails, I thought, The patient, suffering Son Who forgave the souls who hung Him there Ere the desecration was done.) Then, anger subsided. I thought about Him. (We'd meet, face to face, bye and bye.) "Angry?" I said, "Why, no, dear heart . . . . . . Who has less reason than I?" — Romayne Allen we have our mail forwarded; but no other thing cometh to my mind.” “The fourth is like unto the other three, but greater than all,” said his spouse, “Even this, that we attend church on our vacation and that thou dig into thy purse and pay the Lord’s tithe in order that the good name of the church may be preserved, that the heart of the treasurer be made glad and that it may be well with thee, For verily I say unto thee, thou hast more money now than thou wilt have when thou dost return.” And the husband replied, “Verily, thou art noble and wise among wom en.” And he did pay his tithe for the summer, and the treasurer re joiced greatly, saying, “Of truth, there are those who care for the good of the church.” And it was so.

of them. He encouraged Rodney to pray and read his Bible. Some days he surprised Rodney. Once he said, “ Rodney, bring all your friends to the auditorium, because we are go ing to have a party.” “Yes,” said Rodney, “ I want to go.” “ Me too,” said one of the other sick boys. The children had fun at the party, eating ice cream, playing with toys, and popping balloons. They loved the funny ventriloquist with the talking puppet dressed in a doctor’s outfit. Happy songs were sung. Then the children became quiet so they could hear a story about Jesus. They were so very quiet that one could hear a pin drop. No one had more fun than Rodney. Days passed by and Rodney grew weaker. Mother began to realize that soon her little boy would be leaving her to enter his heavenly home. “ Mommy, I am so happy to go to Jesus, but I am very sad because you won’t be there. Please, Mommy, let Jesus come into your heart so I will see you again.” THE CHRISTIAN FLAG To the Christian Flag, so true, We pledge allegiance too, We salute you — the Flag of our Saviour. May the Truth for which you stand, Ne'er be marred by wicked hand! Flag of flags — Christian banner, We salute you! — L. Tears streamed down Mother’s face. “Yes,” she promised. “ But how?” Just then Rodney said, “Jesus is here! Look, Mommy, Jesus has come to take me home.” Soon Rodney was with Jesus. He seemed to be walking, running as fast as he could to Jesus who held out His arms to welcome him . . . But Mother . . . We’re sure he must have known that the Chaplain was there with Mother. He was telling her about Jesus. They were bowing their heads in prayer by the empty bed. Yes, she too, asked Jesus to come into her heart. Now she un derstood Rodney’s joy and her heart was comforted. “ Chaplain,” she said, “ I want many boys and girls to know about Rodney’s Jesus. Wherever I go I will tell them this story.”
