w ith K en Poure Rev. Kenneth Poure is evangelist with the “Accent on Youth Crusades," a new service to churches of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, Inc. Receiving his training from BIOLA, Mr. Poure has been greatly used of the Lord in dealing with youth. The emphases of his weekly meetings are on evangelism, soul-winning, Bible study and memorization, and follow-up. Church es interested in such specialized helv are urged to call or write the school’s Exten sion Department for complete information and available dates for scheduling. It is a mid-week program entitled POWERHOUSE and is geared around the Word of God. After choosing a book of the Bible for study, the young person is challenged to analyze a chapter of that book each week, pur suing it verse by verse to determine for himself the “key” and those truths which seem most applicable to his own life. Systematic Scripture mem orization is also a part of the plan. We stress the vital place of the Word of God in everyday living. When the POWERHOUSE groups meet, the usual songs and announce ments are omitted. The program is opened with prayer and the members proceed with a Bible discussion of the chapter which each has studied and outlined prior to the meeting. In these discussion periods the youth worker serves as moderator (not as “preacher”). He may use leading questions to get the discussion under way, relying unreservedly on the Spirit of God for direction. Some people have said, when intro duced to this program, “I can’t see how it could work — it isn’t colorful enough for our kids now days.” But let me say that we have too long overlooked the power and attraction of the Word of God when, by the Spirit, it is applied to our lives. Spir itual growth is the heart and goal of POWERHOUSE. Its evident success deems it worthy of consideration. POWERHOUSE material and addi tional information are available to you free of charge. Rev. Ken Poure# It has been said, “If you want to stay young, work with young people; if you want to die young, try to keep up with them!” Any youth worker can attest to the truthfulness of this statement. But at the same time he will tell you how very much he loves the youth. You’ll soon be convinced, too, that he realizes the privilege and responsibility of reaching the young people of our land for the Lord Jesus. W i t h r e b e l l i o n a n d godlessness sweeping America today, can you and I do less than dedicate our all to such a cause? What is the best way to do the job? Stop and consider! How would you reach the youth of our cities, of our nation, of the world? There is only one way — God’s way, which is to establish our own Christian young people in the Word of God so that they can intelligently enter the mis sion field (their campus) to lead other fellows and girls into a living relationship with Jesus Christ. To those who have studied the problem, it is evident there is a great sin of omission among our Bible-be- lieving churches and that is the lack of a strong, Christ-centered program made available to those of our youth who have entered the Christian walk. Since evangelism is the emphasis of our programming, particularly on the youth level, our young converts are left to “plow” for themselves in the field of Christian maturity. If they fail to thrive there, we have no one to blame but ourselves.- This problem has long confronted the youth leader and has given him much concern. Many helps have come in the field of Christian Education and have been gratefully used. But now the writer would appreciate your consideration of the following meth od, which is already working effec tively among high school and college young people of Southern California.
