Shopping for friends and family isn’t always easy, especially when they don’t share the same passions we do. Are you looking for the perfect gift to spoil the musician in your life? Here are a few sug- gestions to ensure that this Christmas doesn’t fall flat! Do you know someone who has recently picked up a new musical instrument? If they’re just starting to play, chances are that they don’t yet have all the necessary equipment. Other than the instrument it- self, sheet music stands, instrument stands, tuners and metronomes are always useful. Depending on the instrument at hand, a footrest, a strap, a pair of headphones, a muting device, a capo, some cables, spare strings, an amplifier, effects pedals or a microphone could also fit the bill. Similarly, methods and songbooks can help a new musician get off to a good start. Music lessons also make great gifts.
Does your musician already have all the essentials? Think of getting them some sheet music or an album by their favourite musician (this only works if their collection is incomplete), a compilation of songs by their favourite composer, or a pair of concert tickets. There are also many fun and useful gadgets on the market, such as glow-in- the-dark drumsticks, pens that allow you to draw a five-line staff in one fell swoop and special hole punches to make your own guitar picks from credit cards. Finally, think of related items like guitar- shaped cutting boards, cymbal-shaped clocks or coasters that look like vinyl re- cords. With a bit of research, you’ll definitely find something that the musician on your list will adore. If all else fails, you could always get them a nice charm or trinket that represents their passion to a T. So what are you waiting for? Let the music begin!
