Into the future - Selenis 2023 Sustainability Report

Circular economy Selenis is committed to supplying products that increase recyclability and circularity, supporting the creation of closed-loop production systems, and the design of products that are made to be recycled. This approach optimises resource use, emphasising recycling over virgin materials, and reducing waste generation and greenhouse gas emissions, ultimately extending product lifespan. On our quest to improve the post-consumer recycling content, both in quality and quantity, we have also made significant improvements when compared to the previous year. Once again internally, Selenis has invested in machinery to improve the quality of our glycolysis process, allowing for a fine tune of our resins – enhancing, chemical, mechanical and optical properties. Embracing circular economy practices not only ensures compliance with regulations but also positions Selenis as a leader in sustainable business practices. This strategic alignment with regulatory requirements and broader sustainability goals enhances our long-term viability and competitiveness in the market. Circularity is fundamental to our company’s future and our industry’s environmental responsibility. In 2023 Selenis joined the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty, joining over 160 organisations in accelerating progress towards a circular economy in which plastic never becomes waste or pollution, and the value of products and materials is retained in the economy.

“In our industry, transitioning towards a circular economy is imperative to mitigate environmental impact and promote sustainability. Central to this shift is the adoption of easily recyclable designs and the inclusion of post-consumer recycled content. Designing products with recyclability in mind ensures that materials can be easily sorted, processed, and reused at the end of their life cycle, thus reducing waste. Moreover, incorporating recycled content helps to close the loop by giving new life to existing resources and, hence, decrease the reliance on virgin materials. Embracing these principles not only aligns with environmental goals but also presents economic opportunities by creating a more resilient and resource-efficient industry. By committing to a circular economy, both Selenis and the sector can pave the way for a more sustainable future.”
