Into the future - Selenis 2023 Sustainability Report

Selenis is part of a consortium that will promote textile-to-textile recycling. Selenis will leverage a partner’s technology to depolymerise textile waste and then polymerise the monomers to be utilised in the regular PET textile supply chain. The textile and apparel industry consumes 90% of the yearly production of PET. Additionally, less than half of used clothes are collected for reuse or recycling, and only 1% of these clothes are recycled into new garments. Albeit not Selenis’ core-business, we view this as an opportunity to close the loop and promote environmental wellbeing. With a past in this sector, and through collaboration with deep-rooted partnerships, Selenis is committed to recycling post-consumer garments back into the market and to mitigating the damage caused by harmful practices such as fast fashion. Fortunately, Selenis’ intent aligns well with industry demand. Textile and apparel stakeholders are increasingly mindful of their ecological footprint and becoming more conscious of the waste generated. Selenis actively participates in various associations and coalitions, facilitating connections with relevant stakeholders. These include not only garment manufacturers but also other key players such as sorters, recyclers and yarn spinners. Our value proposition has attracted the attention of these industry players, recognising that Selenis can play a vital role in closing the loop. Said recognition has led to the consortium and other trailblazing initiatives that will change the future of the textile industry. Selenis is promoting textile-to-textile recycling Impact story
