Robotics club Jalisco, Mexico
The Careyes Foundation’s mission is to catalyse innovative programs related to education, sports, music, ecology, and arts in order to improve the wellbeing of local rural communities in the Cost Alegre region of Jalisco, Mexico. Selenis has supported the Robotics Club of the Careyes Foundation since its birth in March 2022. This club was born thanks to Erwin Muller, a former student of the University of Texas (UT) who taught students how to use LEGO robots Mindstorms 2.0. that he donated, after which teenage captains were chosen to teach other children. The club aims to expand children's skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and offer new career perspectives, whilst broadening their horizons.
Since then, the robotics club has been one of the foundation's most successful initiatives, including the participation of at least 21 young students.
Also, considering the partnership of the Careyes Foundation with the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, Selenis supported the travel expenses of an exemplary student in the robotics program, so that he may have the opportunity to travel to a Robotics Summer Camp in Texas. Overall, robotics training offers a supportive and stimulating environment for children to learn, grow, and develop valuable skills that can positively impact their academic, social, and personal development. Robotics training offer children STEM education, problem-solving skills, creativity, teamwork, and confidence building, all these being soft skills that are fundamental for employment and highly necessary and valued in the labour market.
