PACIA food bank against hunger Portalegre, Portugal

We all have love to give Portalegre, Portugal

In 2023 we supported Portalegre’s Food bank against hunger, an organisation of people of good will who, by joining their efforts on a voluntary basis, aim to alleviate the problem of hunger in a defined region. This private Institution of Social Solidarity fights food waste by sending food products that are soon going to be expired, and distributes them to people in need. The action of the Food Banks is based on gratuity, donation, sharing, volunteering and patronage. PACIA, supplies each year 34 charitable and humanitarian institutions located in 11 municipalities of the district. These institutions provide food to 1064 families, covering 2,585 people. Food Banks Against Hunger are a necessary but provisional response because "everyone has the right to a standard of living sufficient to ensure health and wellbeing for himself and his family, especially in regard to food, clothing, shelter, medical care and necessary social services" (Excerpt from Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights).

We have supported the 15 th edition of the project 'We all have love to give', whose mission is to organise social solidarity actions for groups of children in vulnerable situations, and their families, identified by institutions in the district of Portalegre. Since 2016, this project supports households of the most vulnerable families, ensuring the delivery of a Christmas basket, so that the whole family can spend a Christmas Eve, and the days that follow, with greater comfort and tranquillity. This year we supported this initiative, benefitting 63 households and supporting a total of 193 people (+39 than in 2022). Firemen Department Portalegre, Portugal Our dedication to supporting local communities is deeply ingrained in our values. Portalegre, hometown of our industrial site in Portugal, is nestled in an area prone to fire risks and demands vigilant protection. Hence, we have traditionally supported the local Fire Department, Associação Humanitária de Bombeiros Voluntários de Portalegre, and their 100 firemen, through financial support directed to keeping their equipment updated to assure fire safety infrastructure in the region.
