Into the future - Evertis 2023 Sustainability Report

Biodiversity Environment Taking action to regenerate forests and support indigenous communities At Evertis we are deeply committed to regrowing forests sustainably and protecting biodiversity. That’s why in 2023 we joined forces with the Instituto Zag in Brazil, aligning our actions with our regenerative strategy. Our partnership aims to preserve the endangered Araucaria Angustifolia forests and uphold the rich culture of the Xokleng tribe. The Araucaria tree holds immense importance for the Xoklengs, serving as a vital source of food, medicine, and spiritual connection. Sadly, this remarkable tree is critically endangered, with its extinction predicted within a few years. If the Araucaria becomes extinct, it would not only be a loss for the Xokleng tribe and their cultural heritage, but also have serious consequences for oxygen production, biodiversity, and human development, setting us back in our restoration efforts. At Evertis we turn our pledges into action. We are supporting the Instituto Zag’s ongoing Araucaria tree planting campaign, which began in May 2023. Members of our Brazilian team had the honour of participating in the tree planting process, witnessing the significance of sustainable forest regeneration practices, and recognising the rights of indigenous people and local communities in addressing the global climate crisis. Moreover, we contributed financially to Instituto Zag, enabling the purchase of tools and fuel for travel between tribes. We also provided 80,000 biodegradable seedling bags to support their planting efforts. These contributions have made a substantial impact, resulting in the successful planting of over 12,000 seedlings.

We unite with the Instituto Zag and the Tribo Xokleng, in our efforts to regenerate forests, protect biodiversity, and support indigenous communities.

As we move forward, we will continue to support the planting of pinhão (Araucaria seeds), offer seedling bags, and provide funds for fuel, ensuring our partnership remains impactful. Our commitment remains steadfast in promoting regenerative practices, preserving biodiversity, and upholding the rights of indigenous communities.
