AEBest summer camp Portalegre, Portugal
For several years Evertis has partnered with the Bonfim cluster of schools, composed by 6 schools, in several initiatives to enhance school programs and facilities. Through their School Success Plan framework, they identified that some students were vulnerable to social, organisational, pedagogical, curricular, and family issues, hindering success and optimal academic development. In this context, the AEBest! Summer Camp was born, with the purpose of creating and evaluating a set of activities designed to improve the motivation, skills, and wellbeing of these students, so that they may combat school failure and promote the best in each child.
The program fosters the development of socio- emotional skills in students, promotes equitable access to extracurricular activities, facilitates teacher collaboration to enhance pedagogical strategies, strengthens community engagement, and encourages internal volunteering as monitors/animators. Free of closed plans and open to personal and collective inclusion and promotion, these indoor and outdoor activities allowed the development of enriching dynamics for students in an articulated way. With our support, at least 30 children benefited of a 2-weeks summer camp that included the following activities: • Environmental education • Arts activities • Technology • Nature excursions • STEM and entrepreneurship skills
Program results
“It is increasingly evident that informal learning has a significant impact as it naturally develops latent competencies within personal experiences. This natural development occurs during everyday activities, often unnoticed, as there is no clear and objective intentionality for it. Therefore, when this natural learning takes place in a controlled context, where playful and decentralised activities are conducted, planned with the purpose of acquiring specific knowledge and skills, they become more meaningful and important for character development and achieving the Student Profile upon Exiting Compulsory Education.”
