MANAGING AN ALLEGATION ONCE REPORTED

The SDSL/DSL and Director of People Team alongside then CedO if appropriate, are responsible for making decisions once an allegation is reported by a colleague. If confirmed as a safeguarding allegation, the SDSL/DSL must agree a plan within one working day, with the Director of People Team and CEdO, (if appropriate) and consider:  The immediate safety of any relevant child/children or learner/learners (including vulnerable adult) involved, for example those that are the subject of the safeguarding allegation or other children that the individual has contact with through work or family.  What information to share with the individual who is the subject of the safeguarding allegation and with any other known employer of the individual, and when to do so.

 Whether any immediate decision has to be taken about the suspension of the individual subject to the allegation, pending further enquiries and/or investigation.

 If any records need to be secured or ‘locked down’, or any equipment removed from the individual who is the subject of the concern.

 Whether the criteria are met for a referral to the local authority and/or the police.

 What further information may be required for clarification?

 Identifying who else is aware of the safeguarding allegation and who has been spoken to.

 Whether any advice should be sought from the local authority or NSPCC helpline. If in doubt check it out.

 Who needs to know and what information can be shared?

 How to manage speculation, information, leaks, gossip.

 If any media interest needs to be managed.
