MANAGING AN ALLEGATION ONCE REPORTED
The SDSL/DSL and Director of People Team alongside then CedO if appropriate, are responsible for making decisions once an allegation is reported by a colleague. If confirmed as a safeguarding allegation, the SDSL/DSL must agree a plan within one working day, with the Director of People Team and CEdO, (if appropriate) and consider: The immediate safety of any relevant child/children or learner/learners (including vulnerable adult) involved, for example those that are the subject of the safeguarding allegation or other children that the individual has contact with through work or family. What information to share with the individual who is the subject of the safeguarding allegation and with any other known employer of the individual, and when to do so.
Whether any immediate decision has to be taken about the suspension of the individual subject to the allegation, pending further enquiries and/or investigation.
If any records need to be secured or ‘locked down’, or any equipment removed from the individual who is the subject of the concern.
Whether the criteria are met for a referral to the local authority and/or the police.
What further information may be required for clarification?
Identifying who else is aware of the safeguarding allegation and who has been spoken to.
Whether any advice should be sought from the local authority or NSPCC helpline. If in doubt check it out.
Who needs to know and what information can be shared?
How to manage speculation, information, leaks, gossip.
If any media interest needs to be managed.
Referral The SDSL or DSL must make a referral within one working day if it agreed that the concern against a member of colleagues is safeguarding allegation to:
