THEY LOST THE BATTLE FOR GOLD AT THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN JAPAN BACK IN 2011… and never lost again! In the period since 2012, they’ve won four gold medals at the European Championships and three at the Olympics, six World League titles, a World Cup and a World Championships, as well as two Mediterranean Games. From 1997 until 11 th August this year and the match against Croatia (13:11), Serbia’s water polo squad has won 35 of a total of 42 finals. Their nickname has always been “the dolphins”, but ahead of the Par- is Olympics they received a new one – “the written-offs”. And they admit they didn’t like it. They are Serbia’s water polo team and are triple consec- utive Olympic champions. Not once, not twice, but three times! “We didn’t go as write-offs; we went to win the gold, as we also an- nounced,” said head coach Uroš Ste- vanović with clarity. Forget the nicknames, but re- member the names, because you’ll see more of them on the podiums.

U periodu od 2012. do danas osvojili su četiri zlata na Evropskim prvenstvima, tri na Olimpijskim igrama, šest u Svetskoj ligi, po jednu u Svetskom kupu i na Svetskom prvenstvu i dve na Mediteranskim igrama. Od 1997. do 11. avgusta ove godine i meča sa Hrvatskom (13:11), srp- ski vaterpolisti slavili su u 35 od ukupno 42 finala.
Njihov nadimak je oduvek bio „Delfini“. Pred Olimpijske igre u Pa- rizu dobili su i novi – „Otpisani“. I, kako sami kažu, nije im se svideo. Oni su vaterpolisti Srbije i trostruki su uzastopni olimpijski šampioni. Ne jednom, ne dva puta, tri puta! – Nismo išli kao otpisani, iš- li smo da osvojimo zlato, kao što smo i najavili – jasan je bio selek- tor Uroš Stevanović. Zaboravite nadimke, ali dobro zapamtite imena jer ćete ih još gle- dati na pobedničkim postoljima.
