Prints were faded or digitally manipulat- ed; flowers adorned coats under structural frames and feminine dresses with accentuated drap- ing. Nothing about these pieces was flirtatious, but rather artis- tic. It should also be noted that this served as a wonderful frame- work for the modern iteration of ladylike clothing. We’ve seen many referenc- es to ladylike manners – the shows of Prada and its Miu Miu sister brand were like a time machine back to the ‘60s. Muccia Prada and Raf Simons, who has been collaborating on her collections for a while, mined “fragments of the past to create a collection of the future”. A more conceptual presentation of references to bygone elegance was offered by Loewe’s Jonathan An- derson. Massimo Giorgetti based an entire collection on the hero- ines of Truman Capote’s famous La Côte Basque essay, which was recently revived in Ryan Murphy’s series featuring a star-studded cast and breathtaking costumes.
