HIGHLIGHTS OF DEVELOPMENTS IN THE UNIVERSITY – 2022/2023
• Exploring XR, AI, Ed. 4.0 and EON Reality in Education
As part of the Campus’ commitment to provide training in virtual reality, two workshops on Exploring XR, AI, Ed. 4.0, and EON Reality in Education were held from June 26 to 30, 2023. These workshops introduced participants to the exciting world of Extended Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Ed. 4.0 and demonstrated the application of EON Reality software in educational settings. Participants were also given the opportunity to use the EON-XR Platform in their own time to gain initial experience in using the various applications in their pedagogical practices.
MONA CAMPUS •
National Honours for Ten Members of The UWI Mona Family Ten members of the UWI Community were recipients of some of Jamaica’s highest honours at the 2022 National Honours and Awards Ceremony held on National Heroes Day, Monday, October 17, 2022.
The Order of Jamaica: •
Monty Alexander, CD, for sterling contribution to the promo- tion of Jamaican music and the jazz genre interpretations glob- ally (Honorary Graduate); • Mrs. Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, CD, for outstanding performance in the field of athletics at the international level (Honorary Graduate); • Professor Maureen A. Samms-Vaughan, CD, for pioneering research, clinical work and policy development in the field of Child Health, Child Development and Behaviour (Staff); • Professor Alvin George Wint, CD, for distinguished service to the development of public and private institutions and aca- demia in Jamaica (Professor Emeritus). The Order of Distinction – Rank of Commander: • Mr. Michael Anthony Clarke for his contribution to sports in the area of track & field (Retiree); • Professor Mona Kay Webber for her contribution to preserving and protecting the marine and coastal environment of Jamaica (Staff); • Professor Ronald Edward Young, for his contribution to the field of physiology with emphasis on neurophysiology (Retiree). The Order of Distinction – Rank of Officer: • Dr. Amina Blackwood-Meeks, BH (M), for her contribution to the development of the literary arts in the Jamaican culture (Re- tiree); • Dr. Myrna-Hague-Bradshaw for her contribution to the Jamai- can music industry (Honorary Graduate). Badge of Honour for Meritorious Service: • Dr. Barbara Antonette Salmon Grandison for notable service to the public health sector (Staff).
