A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13
It was lovely to welcome back our Year 13 students for this new term. We hope they all had a restful and enjoyable break.
Ms Pugh has now returned from maternity leave, so all communication for Year 13 will be directed to her.
It has already been a very busy first week for our textile students who have been completing their mock exams. We have been very impressed with how hard the students have been working and the pieces they have created. Today our Year 13 Art, Photography and Fashion students attended an art workshop which was focused on portfolio building, an essential tool for students who want to pursue creative degrees. All students found the workshop extremely helpful and look forward to using the skills in their own portfolios. A reminder that the UCAS deadline is Wednesday 29 January at 6pm. When a student thinks they have completed their application they must first send it to the school for their reference and predicted grades to be added. Ms Pugh or Mr Bannister will then get in contact with the student when their appli- cation is ready to be sent. Lastly, a reminder to all that Waldegrave Sports and Clubs will start next week - please see the full list of activities for the Spring Term on the website here. It would be great to see Year 13 keeping active as these can be a positive distraction during what can be a stressful run up to exams.
Have a good weekend!
MS PUGH, HEAD OF YEAR 13
BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘Hag-seed’ - Margaret Atwood
A marvellous retelling of the infamous Shakespearian play ‘The Tempest’. The story is weaved into the life of troubled, grieving Felix, theatre director, as he is exiled out of his town by his closest friends. He tries to avenge those who betrayed him and come to terms with the loss of his daughter as he directs ‘The Tempest’ with inmates as the actors as part of his new job. Atwood’s clear intelligence in Shakespeare’s work along with her unique, compelling writing style makes this book perfect for people who are interested yet perhaps intimidated by the complexity of Shakespeare.
