Nothing is more magical than moving into a new home. Over the coming years, you’ll make countless memories as you dance around the kitchen with your spouse while making dinner, watch your children play in the backyard, and experience all the excitement that comes with home ownership. That’s one of the biggest reasons the team at SR Homes loves doing what we do. come to life. There are many national builders in our area, but you can always expect a personalized experience when you work with SR Homes. You’re not just another number to us. We want to give you an experience you’ll remember fondly while we build a home that makes your entire family feel comfortable and safe. Every team member believes in this idea and will work diligently to ensure you’re happy with the finished product! Another reason I love my job is that there is always something new going on. No two days feel the same, and I’m rarely stuck behind a desk looking at a computer for hours on end. I’m out helping build houses nearly every day, figuring out how things work, and exploring the engineering behind our projects. When I’m not working, you can usually find me outdoors. I love to fish and spend time at the beach or on a boat. I also enjoy cooking. While I’ll make just about anything, I’ve started to gain a passion for smoking different meats. It creates such a unique flavor! I’m always looking for new meats to smoke, so if you have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them! You may be surprised by my age the first time we meet, but you can rest easy knowing I have plenty of experience and want nothing more than to help homeowners create the home of their dreams. I can’t wait to help you bring your vision to life! –Tyler Rucker
your head and raise your children. I’m Tyler Rucker, and I’m a builder with SR Homes.
Like many others in the home-building industry, I fell into my role at an early age — you could even say I was born into it. Throughout my entire life, everyone in my family has had some role or connection with construction; I’m a fourth-generation builder. After graduating from high school a little over four years ago, I started working alongside my dad, who also worked for SR Homes at the time. Initially, I didn’t plan to enter the builder side of the business. I started in development as a land development coordinator before the pandemic. Once COVID-19 made its way through our area, several builders needed time off to

A great kitchen is the secret ingredient to the perfect home-cooked meal, but it might be the ideal time for a remodel if yours feels a little bland. Whether your cabinets are stuck in the past or your kitchen decor is beyond its best-by date, a kitchen upgrade can take you from groans to gourmet. But before you start whisking up big plans, it’s essential to devise a solid strategy to keep your project from boiling over. Let’s get cooking! RESEARCHING THE RECIPE Whether you want to handle most of the project yourself or hire professionals, it is essential to do your research. Decide what aesthetic or specific features you want to focus on so you can provide examples to contractors or start getting inspiration online. If hiring a professional, look at their portfolio to see if their qualifications match your kitchen goals. Get several quotes to compare and find the right team for your remodel — or do it yourself. PLANNING WITH A FULLY BAKED BUDGET A kitchen remodel can be costly, with an estimated average cost of about $25,000. To create a perfectly baked budget, keep in mind the size of the space, your desired materials, and how drastically you want to change the layout. If you plan to remove walls or install new flooring, you must increase your budget. You can keep your costs down by tackling many of the tasks DIY-style with budget-friendly materials. Carefully consider big purchases, like new appliances or an island, but don’t forget to calculate for the little things, like nails and hardware. PREPPING THE PERFECT PLAN Once you know your goals and budget, create a project timeline and plan. Choose the cabinets, appliances, decor, and other items you want, as well as backup options, so the project stays on track if a product is delayed. Record different measurements in your kitchen, like counter heights, so you have that information handy. If you are making structural changes like plumbing or electrical, contact your local municipality to apply for permits.

Make Your Home the Envy of the Neighborhood CURB APPEAL PROJECTS THAT’LL HELP YOUR HOME SHINE
PAINT Look at your house from the street and pay attention to the paint. If you’re living in a newly constructed home, you shouldn’t notice anything egregious, but those living in older houses may notice chips, cracks, and faded spots. Throwing
Whether you’re looking to sell your house or just want to ensure you have the prettiest house on the block, enhancing your curb appeal is never a bad decision. Do the right things, and your house will draw smiles from everyone who walks by. However, making the exterior of your home more appealing to the eye is not as simple as mowing your lawn regularly and keeping it litter-free. It takes a dedicated effort and intentional actions. Here are three projects you can tackle during your next free weekend to boost your home’s curb appeal. CLEAN Give your house a good deep-cleaning to make it shine and stand out from the street. Wipe down your windows and lighting fixtures before using a power washer on the driveway, walkway, and sidewalk. You can do this within a few hours, so it’s a great place to start!
a fresh coat of paint on your home is one of the best ways to make it stand out, but don’t just pick a color randomly. Look at your roof, trim, shutters, and landscaping to choose a color that complements your home. You should also consider repainting your garage door and front door. Zillow research found that painting your front door black could increase an offer price by over $6,000. REPLACE DAMAGED FEATURES Inspect your gutters and roof to see if they’re still in good condition. Storms can be incredibly damaging to these, and we might not realize whether a replacement is necessary without getting up close. If hail, high winds, or other adverse weather has damaged your gutters or roof, your homeowners insurance will likely cover the bulk of the replacement. You should also look at your mailbox. It might benefit from a fresh coat of paint or a good cleaning, but you could also consider replacing it with something more appealing.

The Lowdown on Light Bulbs Replacing a light bulb isn’t as straightforward as it used to be. Head into your local home WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY
incandescent bulbs use a lot of energy, the U.S. banned the sale and manufacturing of most common incandescent light bulbs, effective Aug. 1, 2023, although some exceptions remain. These include colored lamps and appliance lamps (like oven light bulbs). Many states have stopped carrying them altogether, and others are phasing them out for more energy-efficient options. LED LED bulbs have quickly become the most popular bulb on the market, and for good reason. Not only are these bulbs energy efficient, but they also produce different types of light to match the atmosphere of any room. You can buy LED bulbs that produce amber, soft white, bright white, cool
white, and daylight lighting. While these bulbs are more expensive than incandescent bulbs, they have a much longer lifespan, saving you money in the long run. These are a great option if you need accent or task lighting, but they can also be used in your ceiling fans or just about anywhere else in your home. HALOGEN This is probably the least common option on this list, but it’s still worth mentioning, especially if you prefer incandescent bulbs over LEDs. Halogens are more energy-efficient and last about three times as long as incandescent bulbs, but they run extremely hot and can produce infrared and ultraviolet radiation that can damage your furniture or artwork.
