QC, THAT’S WHERE! The Quad Cities is where world-class and hassle-free collide. It’s a bi-state family of communities in Iowa and Illinois on the Mississippi River. Home to John Deere and ag innovation. We’re the birthplace of sliced bread, NFL football and it’s where we invented taco pizza, the computer, and chiropractic medicine. We attract explorers, dreamers, investors, entrepreneurs, and visitors from around the globe. We’re the creative capital of the Midwest and we are proud to call the QC home! T he Quad Cities, located in Eastern Iowa and Northwestern Illinois, is a regional destination There are a total of 58 unique communities within the region and all offer authentic experiences for visitors to enjoy. Visit our website to learn more about these special places that add to the fabric of our destination. The Mississippi (indigenous name – “missisipi,” meaning great water) was significant in the settlement of the Quad comprised of multiple communities. The largest cities in the metro area include Davenport, IA, Moline, IL, Bettendorf, IA, Rock Island, IL, and East Moline, IL. Cities region and the Mississippi River's physical and economic development. The river, fertile land, lumber, rail, river transport, and business growth opportunities were the draw for many. Our region is one of Native American history (Sauk and Fox), and the influences that immigrants brought during the 1800s provided the area with a rich ethnic tradition. German, Belgian, Irish, Greek, Armenian, English, Welsh, and Hispanic cultures have all impacted the growth and expansion of the Quad Cities region. African Americans settled in the region as early as the 1830s. There were two significant periods of African American migration to the area, the years up to and including the Civil War and the Great Migration of the first half of the 20th century. In the 19th century, African Americans fleeing slavery and the Civil War came because it was a major port in a free territory on the Mississippi River. Iowa and Illinois were free territories and free states when they joined the Union. The building of the Rock Island Lines and factories resulted in a surge of Hispanic immigration to the region, creating entire communities of workers since the early 1900s. Today, their cultures and impact on our region have become an integral part of who we are. The Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, family-owned businesses, neighborhoods, and events like Mercado on Fifth and the annual Día de los Muertos parade add to the culture of our community. The Quad Cities region is one of immigration, multiculturalism, and acceptance of beliefs and lifestyles. This diversity enhances the tapestry of our community experiences, growth, and cultural makeup. Today, the Quad Cities continues to welcome new people to start new jobs, open businesses, and make the Quad Cities their home. Our Roots

OUR MISSION Visit Quad Cities enhances the region’s quality of life and creates economic development opportunities through tourism to inspire and build our Mississippi River regional Destination OUR VISION The Quad Cities will be recognized internationally as a must-experience riverfront destination. Our

WORLD-RENOWNED RIVER T he Mississippi is the fourth longest river in the world and the second longest river in North America. Did you know our section of the river is the only place where it flows east to west? The river is 2,341 miles of power and beauty, and it is The Arsenal Bridge, also known as the Government Bridge, has two decks, the upper deck of the bridge is used by trains and the lower deck carries automobile traffic. Completed in 1896, the bridge is adjacent to Lock and Dam No. 15. The bridge spans 1,854 feet, connecting Rock Island to Davenport. It’s a swing bridge with a span that can swing a full 360 degrees to allow river traffic to pass.

vital to our existence. The Mississippi is a barge highway, water well, and recreational space. The upper Mississippi generates over $250 billion in commerce each year and the entire length of the river generates over $400 billion. Barges and their tows move approximately 175 million tons of freight each year through a system of 29 locks and dams. It also supports more than 750,000 manufacturing, agriculture and tourism jobs in 60 counties directly adjacent to the waterway. Our river is an important recreational resource for our boaters, canoeists, hunters, anglers, and birdwatchers. It offers outdoor opportunities, whether on the water or admiring its strength from our riverfront biking and walking trails, bluffs, parks, and riverfront festivals and events. Great river views can be found high atop our bridges, and each provides access for walking and biking. The Centennial Bridge between Rock Island and Davenport provides great photo opportunities of the downtowns, Lock & Dam 15 and the Roller Dam as barge traffic makes its way along the river.

The newest addition to Quad Cities’ vistas is the I-74 River Bridge between Moline and Bettendorf. The bridge was completed in 2021 and is the largest basket handle true arch bridge in the United States. It is also one of only a few interstate bridges with pedestrian access. The bridge’s 14-foot-wide bike and pedestrian path offers an amazing scenic overlook and connects biking, walking and jogging trails between Iowa and Illinois. A glass oculus in the observation area allows a view of the river below with boats passing by underneath the bridge. In addition, colorful LED lighting brings the bridge to life at night. Take a cruise on the river aboard Celebration River Cruises, the Twilight riverboat, or Channel Cat Water Taxis. The Celebration Belle, a family-owned riverboat, offers cruises April - November.
