Inspired by the teachings of St. Benedict and rooted in our Catholic faith, St. Elizabeth School fosters spiritual development, academic excellence, responsibility to self, and service to others grades Pre-K 3 through 12 .
Founded in 1908 , St. Elizabeth School began humbly in a Benedictine Convent on Broom Street. With the Rule of St. Benedict as a guide, the Sisters were responsible for the education of thousands of children. St. Elizabeth High School was later founded in 1940 by the Right Reverend Monsignor James M. Grant. Under the direction of Reverend Francis Desmond, the first principal, St. Elizabeth graduated 20 students in June 1944 . Thanks to the vision of its Benedictine Founders, St. Elizabeth remains one of the few schools in Delaware in which a student can complete their Elementary, Middle, and High School education under the same roof.

St. Elizabeth High School has been recognized for the second time as an Apple Distinguished School through 2019 . Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence that use Apple products to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Our 1:1 iPad Program - a program that fosters a learning environment that is student-centered, technology infused, and curriculum focused. On a daily basis, iPads bring liveliness to the classrooms, inspiration to the faculty, and creativity to our students. Students use and are familiar with numerous interactive apps, e-texts and ibooks and are instructed in the responsible use of technology. The MILL: Makerspace & Innovative Learning Lab is a space for students to actively design, experiment, create and invent - with access to a 3 D printer! The flexible learning spaces stimulate collaborative innovation, for critical thinking and problem solving.
EMPOWERING LEADERS Throughout their high school career, students will step into leadership roles throughout St. Elizabeth and in their own communities. By holding a leadership position, students learn how to collaborate, inspire and problem-solve effectively. “When I first stepped foot in the hallways my freshman year, I had no idea of all the things I’d be able to accomplish during my time at St. Elizabeth High School. I began my career a shy student, more of an observer- not someone I’d consider a leader. As time went on, I was challenged to venture out of my comfort zone and encouraged by my teachers to take on leadership roles throughout the school. A COMMUNITY JOINED IN FAITH Rooted in the Benedictine tradition that a balance of prayer and work is essential for stability and community, spirituality is a crucial component of daily life at St. E. Our faculty and staff nurture the motto of St. Benedict and model the values of hospitality, peace, prayer, compassion and the dignity of work. Beginning each day with morning prayer and celebrating events of worship and service, the spiritual life of the school is a rich one. The Campus Ministry team works in collaboration with the St. E pastor, the Religious Studies department, and the administration to support the prayer life, academic opportunities, and service opportunities available to students as well as to make visible the presence of the Rule of St. Benedict and the Viking Spirit in the community. Enabling each student to develop a deep and lasting relationship with God, students may participate in school liturgies and prayer services, class retreats, March for Life, Pass the Word Vocation Days, the Diocesan Youth Pilgrimage and summer service trips. Students of all religions are welcomed and encouraged to embrace and celebrate St. E values and traditions.
ACADEMICS At St. Elizabeth, students fulfill their academic goals within a progressive, challenging, and supportive learning environment. We are proud to offer a comprehensive and rigorous college preparatory program including honors level, advanced placement, and online courses. By partnering with The Virtual High School (VHS), students can choose from a wide variety of approved electives offered through online classrooms, thus allowing them to delve deeper into areas of interest or to start exploring courses related to specific college majors. Skilled in the art of presentation, research, and collaboration, St. Elizabeth students take an active role in the learning process. Modern labs & facilities enrich a diverse STEM curriculum. An Active Learning Environment, where learning takes place outside the desk, highlights the student-centered approach in classes and projects. By encouraging innovation, adaptability, and articulation, students are empowered to become lifelong learners.

FOCUS ON COLLEGE PREP At the core of our mission is to challenge our students to achieve academic excellence with the goal of college admission. Through counseling and consultation, academic advisement, and career and college placement, the school counseling department supports students in becoming effective learners and successful adults as they prepare for college. Offering an “open door” policy, students may visit the school counseling office as needed.

THE SCHOLASTICA PROGRAM - EDUCATING ALL STUDENTS St. Elizabeth School recognizes that all individuals learn differently. We created The Scholastica Program to personalize the learning experience at St. Elizabeth. While overseeing The Scholastica Program, the program coordinator offers guidance, collates all appropriate documentation, teaches study skill strategies and acts as an academic coach for these students throughout their career. The Scholastica Program Coordinator also acts as a liaison between the teacher, student, and parent/guardian to ensure that all appropriate accommodations are met.
STUDENT LIFE - BEYOND THE CLASSROOM We foster an environment where students are encouraged to dive deeper into their interests and pursue their passions to the fullest. We offer a broad range of activities for various grade levels that contribute to the overall leadership, service, and spiritual growth of our students. Take advantage of all that St. Elizabeth has to offer as you invent yourself and define your future path. Students can actively decide which clubs they want to devote their time and interest to. While student government, mock trial, pep club and the arts remain at the center of our student activities, the evolving interests of our students spark other clubs. Throughout the year, activity periods are built into the class schedule to encourage students to explore and get involved in new things. While time is set aside during the day, many clubs also meet before and after school.

PERFORMING AND VISUAL ARTS Visual Arts, Music Programs, and the Performing Arts are fundamental parts of the overall student experience at St. Elizabeth. Our Benedictine Performing Arts Center (BPAC) and dedicated art studio provide a perfect environment for students to explore their creativity and self-expression, hone their skills and showcase their work across campus. Art and Design, Chorus and Drama are a few electives where students explore involvement in both a classroom and performance setting. Students may take part in original play writing, the fall play, talent shows, and the spring musical to name a few. No matter the level of involvement, St. Elizabeth students grow through active participation and explore creative imagination and self-expression both on and off stage. Our art programs are designed to be inclusive, any student may participate. Our schedule is planned so students do not have to choose between participating in the arts or another activity, like athletics.
ATHLETICS At St. Elizabeth we value Athletics as an inclusive program, which centers on teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. We are proud to offer 14 varsity sports, most of which have JV & freshman counterparts. Hundreds of students participate in athletics each year, many playing multiple sports. Vikings strive for excellence both on the playing field and in the classroom - 59 % of athletes are honor roll students. Coaches are committed to building a foundation consisting of the pillars of the Maroon & Gold Spirit – character, leadership, humility, commitment, teamwork, responsibility, and perseverance.

SERVICE Service to others is an integral part of our Christian life. Jesus set an example for us, and we try to model ourselves after Him. By instilling the value of service to others during their time at St. E, we believe our students will continue to build on this foundation throughout their adult lives. The Maroon & Gold Spirit emphasizes spirituality, service, and leadership through the retreat experience afforded to each class annually; Summer Service Trips; and many service opportunities available throughout the year in our MANNA Program. MANNA – Meeting A Need Now and Always – is designed to expose students to the concept that service to others must be an integral part of Christian life. Students must complete a service project commitment in order to receive a diploma. As a graduation requirement, students have the opportunity to support the MANNA program through a minimum of 60 hours of community service, with many students completing hundreds of hours individually
FINANCIAL AID In an effort to make our catholic education more affordable, families have the opportunity to apply for financial assistance. St. Elizabeth High School uses School and Student Services (SSS) for the financial aid process. To be considered for financial aid, parents must complete a Parent Financial Statement (PFS) and submit a W- 2 and tax forms directly to SSS. Financial aid applies to tuition only and is not offered for iPad, books, uniforms or any fees.
SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS Academic scholarships are awarded based upon placement test scores, middle school academic records and teacher recommendations. Approximately 25 % of the student population receives scholarships or grants, with awards totaling over $225,000. LIFE AFTER ST. E Each year, our graduates are accepted into 125+ colleges and universities and are awarded on average over $10.5 million in college scholarships and grants. St. E alumni attend institutions of higher learning throughout the nation - from the Universities of Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Virginia to Yale University, Fordham University and the United States Military Academy. Our 6,000+ alumni are represented in all major professions - law, medicine, the military, education, business, engineering, law enforcement, government, the religious life, media and communications. An important way to see that St. Elizabeth High School is the best school for you is to visit for a day! We pair interested eighth grade students with current St. E students. You’ll spend a whole day with us - going to classes, eating lunch, touring the campus and participating in the day’s events. Eighth grade students can visit beginning in early October each year.
