graphic and realistic, with evidence of a good deal of research into au thenticity. The stories are written for 8-12 year olds. A supplement deals with background materials such as the period between the Testa ments, how the Bible came to us, and some of the customs of the times. The paper is attractive, the print clear, of readable type, and the binding is strong. An index is really a detailed table of contents, and there is an index of characters. — 672 pages; cloth; Broadman Press, Nashville; $4.95. The name hon ors the memory of John Wycliffe, who first gave the Bible to the people in English. Interpreting the Bible By A. Berkeley Mickelsen

by W. Phillip Keller

The field of hermeneutics is broad and complex, covering a varied area of related and interrelated disci plines. It is therefore a somewhat gigantic task for an author to bring together in one volume an adequate coverage of this diversified study, which will meet the expectation of every scholar. It is my opinion that this work will satisfy quite general ly the desire of most students who accept the full, unqualified inspira tion of the Word of God and the supreme authority of the Lord Jesus Christ. This book is scholarly, well written, and satisfactorily documented. The writer holds to a strong view of in spiration, and accepts wholehearted ly the claims of Jesus Christ as re vealed in Holy Writ. He exalts the supremacy and uniqueness of the Word and the Person of the Word. He adheres, in the main, to the his torical, grammatical method of in terpretation, which seeks to explain the text according to the meaning of words. However, we feel that there is one weakness in this work. Since the writer does give a survey of the field of Biblical interpretation (p. 3-53), it would seem to be in order to men tion the dispensational system of i n t e r p r e t a t i o n . This school has played an important role in shaping the thinking of many evangelical scholars, and is currently embraced by many conservative believers. In our judgment such an om i s s i o n leaves a gap in the study of her meneutics as it exists today. The pic ture is not complete. — Reviewed by Nickolas Ku r t aneck . 425 pages; cloth; Wm. B.
