justified. Read the story again for your own good, (Luke 18:9-14). Anytime we despise another, we are in trouble with God because we are being proud and “God re- sisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5). rally righteous adult any- where. We are sinners by na- ture. When we believe this in our heart, we are humble. But we naturally think more highly of ourselves than we ought to think. We need to re- pent of thinking we are some- one important, or someone better than the average, or better than someone else. Every one of us needs salva- tion through the redeeming work of Christ. We have no reason to be proud of our- selves because one is just as needy as another. Jesus gave us a story to help us understand the sin- fulness of pride. The story was to those who trust in them- selves that they are righteous and despise others. It is the story of the two men who went up to the temple to pray. The one told God how good he was and how thankful he was that he was not like other men! The publican asked God to be merciful to him, a sin- ner. And he went to his house

about himself hoping that you will not agree with him, but if you do agree with him, he is hurt! God has His way of exposing any pretence of humility. We must believe in our heart that “all our right- eousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). We have absolutely nothing to recommend us to God! When we believe what the Bible says about us, we will also believe what the Bible says about God. We need to believe what the Bible says about God as well as what the Bible says about us to find salvation. The Gospels show how Jesus cared about little children. His interest and care is contrasted with the attitude of the disciples. The disciples were saying in essence; “Go away. Do not bother the Master with children.” But Jesus re- buked His disciples for

“And Jesus called a little child unto Him, and set him in the midst of them, and said, verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:2-3). Every Christian must con- tinue to believe this truth in order to be saved and remain saved. No adult is naturally childlike; we must be con- verted to childlikeness. The next verse says this: “Whoso- ever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the king- dom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:4). To humble ourselves, we need to reckon with our pride. We need to believe what the Bible says about us. “There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that under- standeth, there is none that seeketh after God.” (Romans 3:10-11). There is no natu-
