UNNERSITY BASE: Awide breadth of knowl edge is made available through the faculty and various disciplines of study at Biola University. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Applications must be submitted by February 15 for fall entry or October 1 for spring entry. Applicants accepted for the fall semester may begin studies in the pre ceding summer. Applicants accepted for the spring may begin studies in the preced ing interterm. Decisions are made only on completed applications. (1) Eligible applicants must hold a mas ter's degree from an accredited institution with an average of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. (2) Program Reduction: Students may receive a maximum 30 unit program reduc tion, with specific courses waived according to MA concentration. (3) Vocational Foundation: All Ed.D. appli cants must have a minimum of two years or equivalent of full-time Christian vocational ex perience, preferably within a church context. (4) Submit scores on the Graduate Record Examination Aptitude Test (GRE). Information regarding testing dates and loca
al qualification (I Timothy 3, Titus 1), spiri tual giftedness, relational skills and other ministry-related skills. (7) The applicant must submit a written statement (700-1000 words) describing vo cational objectives and how the degree re lates to those objectives. (8) In addition to the application and ref erences, the applicant will submit a formal paper of at least 20 pages on a topic relating to Christian education which will reflect graduate level research and writing skills. (9) The applicant must be interviewed by members of the Christian education faculty. If married, the applicant is to be accompanied by spouse, when possible. This interview, if required, will be scheduled toward the end of the application process. Applicants will be notified if an interview is required. Classification ofAdmitted Students Each student admitted is classified in one of the following categories. (1) Full Graduate Standing Applicants who intend to obtain a degree and who are admitted without reservation are granted full graduate standing. Only students with full graduate standing may become degree candidates. (2) Conditional Standing Conditional admission status may be awarded to a student whose academic record shows certain deficiencies. The stu dent must demonstrate ability to do gradu ate work at a high level of achievement be fore being considered for admission to a de gree program. After completing two courses (or a semester of work), the record of a student with conditional standing will be reviewed by the graduate faculty serving the program. The faculty may then grant full graduate standing or request that the student should remain on conditional stand ing until specified requirements have been met. Conditional admission status may also be awarded to a student with deficiencies in the educational, theological and vocational foundational requirements for admission. A student can take a maximum of 18 doctoral units before foundational admission re quirements and positive review by the grad uate committee serving the program will grant the student full graduate standing. (3) Inactive Students Inactive students are those who have re quested and been granted a leave of ab sence from the program. A leave of ab-

Integration of faith, learn ing and living is a major focus of the program. The program nurtures the competencies of sound scholarship, research, effective in terpersonal skills and teaching ability. Competence is combined with creativity and imagination enlightened by research based knowledge. The doctoral program is designed to stimulate the growth of each student to be all that God intended in pro fessional competence and in personal walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. International students are not required to take the GRE if English is not their native language and they do not hold degrees from an American college or university. Instead, they must submit scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (fOEFL) . (5) Submit completed profiles (not an swer sheets) of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPO. These tests must be taken at a college testing service or from a licensed psychologist. Test material is confidential. Applicants are referred to the source from which the testing was ad ministered if they desire clinical interpreta tion. The MMPI results must be less than 12 months old. (6) Submit five letters of recommenda tion on forms supplied by the school. Three of these letters are academic references and two are character references (one must be a pastor). The pastor and other character ref erences shall provide confirmation of spiritu-
