CE 673 Biblical Foundations ofthe Family (2) Relating biblical teachings about mar­ riage, family and human relationships to the nuclear and extended families, early mar­ riage and parenting skills. Prescribed for M.A (M.F.M.) students. Elective. CE 675 Family Life Education in the Local Church (4) Objectives, organization and administra­ tion of a program of family life education in the local church. Includes an analysis of current trends in family life education. Prescribed for M.A (M.F.M.) students. CE 716 Ministry to Single Adults (2) Investigation of single adult ministries in the context of the local church. Emphasis in the development of an effective single adult ministry. Various proven and experi­ mental models of single adult ministries will be examined. Elective. CE 722 Counseling Troubled Families (2) A comparison of positive and negative family systems in Scripture, in theory and in church life. The development of a team approach to intervention, enrichment and equipping for ministry to families. Prerequisite: CE 603, 628 and 675 or their equivalents. Prescribed for M.A (M.F.M.) students. Elective. INDEPENDENT PROGRAMMING CE 570 Special Studies in Christian Education (2) Designed for students who desire a spe­ cific course content not covered in any of the regularly offered classes. Content se­ lected on the basis of need and will differ from semester to semester. Admissions to the course and the content of the course will be by advisor's approval. May be taken twice with different emphasis. CE 636-637 Independent Study (1-2, 1-2) In-depth investigation of a topic under the guidance of the Christian education de­ partment using standard research proce­ dures. Topic selection and course enroll­ ment is by advisor's approval. Elective. CE 691 Educational Internship (1) Structured field experience in a C.E. ministry field site with an approved supervi­ sor focusing on the development of stu­ dents' spiritual gifts and personal skills ap­ plied to teaching the Bible. Prescribed for the M.AC.E.) 68 unit program only.

CE 633 Principles ofResearch (2) Basic methods of educational research with assessment of each method for use in religious education. Introduction to statisti­ cal measurements. Formulation and imple­ mentation of research projects in ministry situations. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory required per week. Prescribed for all M.AC.E. students. CE 638 Current Trends in Christian Education (2) Identifying and understanding those is­ sues which are of primary concern to the field of Christian education today. Opportunity will be provided for individual and group research in areas of personal concern. The course will investigate cur­ rent educational trends, alternative church education patterns and new forms of min­ istry. Elective. CE 644 Music in the Church (2) The place of music in the church's pro­ gram. Criteria for the selection of appropri­ ate music. Techniques for leading music and teaching various groups. The relation­ ship of music to worship, instruction and fellowship. Elective. CE 649 Instructional Technology (2) Administration of the audio-visual pro­ gram for the local church. Methods for use of materials for various age levels. Study of equipment and source materials, principle and practices. Elective. CE 720 College Teaching Procedures (2) Consideration given to the various philosophies of education, theories of learn­ ing, the factors that influence learning at the undergraduate and graduate level. Emphasis given to becoming a more effec­ tive teacher. Variables in motivation, reten­ tion, transfer and high level thinking will be discussed. A supervised classroom teach­ ing experience is required. Prescribed for Th.M. students. MINISTERIAL COUNSELING AND FAMILY MINISTRIES CE 560 Personal and Interpersonal Development (2) Emphasis on personal and interpersonal growth through individual assignments and small group interactions. Opportunity given for spiritual, physical, emotional, men­ tal and relational development. Required of two year M.AC.E. students.

CE 603 Counseling Ministry in the Church (3-4) The ministry of counseling in church context. First consideration given to the strengths, weaknesses and unresolved is­ sues of the counselor. Focus of the course on skills in developing relationships, facili­ tating realization and encouraging responsi­ ble living. Attention given to crisis counsel­ ing as well as issues such as building a counseling ministry team. Prescribed for M.A (C.E.),M.A (M.F.M.), M.A Min. (C.E.) and M.Div. (C.E.) students. CE 605 Small Group Leadership (2) Roles of small groups in the church in providing fellowship, mutual ministry and edification. Skills for organizing and lead­ ing groups. Introduction to dynamics of small group interaction. (Same as PT 724) CE 618 Psychopathology and Assessment (3) An overview of various models of psy­ chopathology and introduction to some of the tools of personality assessment with the goal of being able to determine which peo­ ple to work with and which to refer to other helpers with more specialized training. CE 620 Premarital Preparation and Counseling (2) Counseling techniques applied to dating and courtship, engagement and premarital adjustments. Principles and structures of premarital counseling are stressed and demonstrated. Emphasis on the use of TJTA, Prepare and Family History analysis. Prerequisite: CE 603 or permission of pro­ fessor. Elective.

CE 628 Marriage and Family Counseling (4)

Advanced course dealing with problems and conflicts within marriage and family settings. Counseling methods and practical behavioral methods from a scriptural con­ text designed to meet problems and con­ flicts; conducted via demonstrations, case studies and counseling involvement. Prerequisite: CE 603 and permission from the department chairman. Prescribed for M.A (M.F.M.) students. Elective. CE 629 Group Counseling and Therapy (2) Training in the principles of counseling and therapy in a group setting. The class itself used as a laboratory experience with the stu­ dent participating both in the role of therapist and client Prerequisite: CE 605. Elective.
