Student carrying seven units or more are expected to have physical examinations prior to coming to Biola University. These records must be complete and on file with the University Health Center. Biola offers protection to the student against certain expenses caused by accident, injury or emergency illness in the form of a required plan of medical insurance. This requirement can be waived if a student shows proof of other health and accident insurance at the time of regis­ tration each semester. The cost of this insurance is subject to change from time to time by the company. Students who participate in intercollegiate athletics are required to participate in an additional supplemental athletic insurance plan. The cost of this insurance is subject to change from time to time by the company. Biola does not assume any responsibility for serious illness or accident on or off campus, in or out of univer­ sity games or activities. The use of school facilities is at the student's own risk. ETHNIC AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENT RELATIONS The Office for Ethnic and International Student Relations is a part of the Student Affairs Department. It is one of the significant channels through which the University seeks to cultivate a perceptive appreciation of cultural differences while expressing sensitivity to diverse racial and cultural groups. Additionally, on­ campus student groups provide another form of support for new students as sensitive people who went through periods of orientation to campus life reach out to help others. Activities which they sponsor include chapels, potluck dinners, local tours, retreats, Bible studies, gospel time ministries and holiday trips. Additional information may be obtained through Student Affairs Department. COUNSELING SERVICES Personal counseling services are available to inter­ ested graduate and undergraduate students for a modest administrative fee. Individual counseling, group counseling, pre-engagement, premarital and marital counseling are available during the school year and summer months. Groups for special needs, workshops and seminars are held throughout the year. Inquiries may be made in person at the Rosemead Counseling Center or by phone at extension 5515. Emergency service during non-clinic hours can be obtained through the on call counselor at (213) 946-1761. THE CAREER AND LEARNING ASSISTANCE SERVICE The Career and Learning Assistance Service offers a variety of services and programs to both graduate and undergraduate students.

FOOD SERVICE Biola provides an excellent food service for all resi­ dent students. A wide variety of offerings is available at each meal, including a choice of hot entrees, a salad bar, several specialty salads, fresh fruits , breads, bever­ ages, and deserts. Three meal plans are available, and all resident students are required to choose one of the three: a full service plan (consisting of20 meals per week), a 15-meal plan, or a 10-meal plan. For students with special dietary requirements prescribed by a physician, our food service personnel are willing to work with individual needs. Commuting students may purchase one of the regu­ lar meal plans, or a discounted commuter pass, or pay for individual meals at door prices. BOOKSTORE The University Bookstore is open six days and two evenings a week for the convenience of students, facul­ ty, and staff. All required textbooks as well as general trade and reference books are available. The bookstore has a large selection of Christian trade books and offers bibles in a variety of styles and binding at substantial discounts. Insignia clothing and a large selection of cards, supplies, gift items, music, and personal care items are also available. COMPUTER STORE Located within the bookstore, the Computer Corner has Apple computer and related software and acces­ sories available to registered Biola students at substan­ tial discounts. Featuring Apple's Macintosh, the Computer Corner provides the computing tools that students will find useful in their course of study at Biola. Several courses, including Freshman English, require that students have access to the Macintosh for completion of course requirements. The Computer Corner does not compete with private businesses. Computer software and accessories are sold exclusively to enrolled full-time students, strictly for the purpose of enhancing the educational process. STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES Biola University offers health services for all regis­ tered students. These services can be obtained at the campus Student Health Center. Physician hours change from semester to semester and are posted on the doors of the University Health Center. There are minimal user's fees, primarily for elective treatments, lab fees and physician exams. There is no charge to see a physician. A medical consent form must be signed by parent or guardian for all unmarried students under eighteen
