430 Nursing in the Community - Clinical (5)
of Nursing must accompany the applica tion. It is recommended that this be done concurrently with application to the University. Final acceptance into nursing will not be made until official ac ceptance to the University is granted. 3. In addition to the official transcripts sent to the Office of Admissions and Records, separate official transcripts (in cluding high school, school of nursing and any other college or Bible school) must be sent directly to: Biola University, Department of Nursing, 13800 Biola Avenue, La Mirada, CA 9063!Ul001. Transcripts sent to the Office of Admissions and Records are not forward ed to the Nursing Department. 4. To be considered for acceptance into the nursing program, all applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. 5. Transfer-challenge students who have met prerequisites comparable to the generic students will have equal access for open spaces in all nursing courses. 6. The Department of Nursing health form required of all nursing majors must be submitted prior to clinical challenge and admission to clinical nursing cours es. Evidence of current C.P.R certifica tion is also required. 7. The applicant must complete the re quired non-nursing prerequisites as out lined in the standard curriculum chart for the nursing major before entering clinical nursing courses (except 30 unit option). Transfer credit for non-nursing courses will be granted by the Office of Admissions and Records as indicated in the university catalog. If a given nursing course from a regionally accredited nursing program is comparable in con tent and level to a given course offered by the Department of Baccalaureate Nursing, transfer credit will be granted. 8. All transfer-challenge students must successfully challenge or complete Nursing 310 Behavioral Concepts for Nursing Practice. Comparable courses will be evaluated for transfer credit. 9. Challenge students may need to take 12 units in addition to the challenge courses to qualify for financial assistance. 10. Following notification of acceptance into the Department of Nursing, the can didate may begin the challenge process: This process consists of an examination with theory and clinical components. NLN Profile II and teacher-made exams are utilized. Math exams are also includ ed. A detailed outline of the challenge
process may be obtained by contacting the Department of Nursing directly. 11. Candidates for the challenge process have the option of scheduling the exami nations in such a way that if unsuccess ful, subsequent enrollment in the course is possible. 12. The challenge fee is $50.00 per exam. Candidates must register for the chal lenge exam(s) to be accomplished each semester. 13. Course credit will be granted upon successful completion of the challenge exam. Courses may be challenged one time only. 14.Specific policies related to R.N.'s, L.V.N.'s or L.P.N.'s follow. Transfer chal lenge students from other nursing pro grams or other health profession back grounds will be evaluated individually. 15.Transfer students choosing to take the basic generic nursing program should apply as any other student for the program, meeting all prerequisites as outlined in the university catalog and standard curriculum chart for the nurs ing major. (C*) denotes that a class can be challenged for the units listed. Additional Policies: Registered Nurse 1. The applicant must hold current registration in the United States. Graduates of regionally accredited nursing programs in the process of obtaining licen sure will be admitted on provisional status. 2. All R.N.s will participate in a transition seminar course Nursing 300) designed to facilitate socialization into baccalaure ate professional nursing. 3. All Level III courses must be taken. Admission into Level III classes is con tingent on successful completion of all Level I and II challenges. The following courses may be challenged: 301,302, 400,412,414, 420. Additional Policies: Licensed Vocational Nurse 1. The applicant must hold current registra tion in the United States. Graduates of regionally accredited nursing programs in the process of obtaining licensure will be admitted on provisional status. 2. The applicants may take the 30 unit curriculum or the transfer-challenge cur riculum.
Clinical application of the nursing process with individuals, families and communities to promote and maintain adaptive equilibrium. 441 Introduction to Nursing Research (2) The research process applied to nursing in cludes problem definitions and basic research design. Each student works on developing a basic research proposal. Prerequisites: 400, 412, 414, 420, Statistics (may be taken concur rently with consent of instructor). 442 Applied Nursing Research ( 1) Opportunity to critique literature, contin ue work on research proposal or participate in a research project. Prerequisite: 441.

Combines theory of leadership and nurs ing care delivery systems with issues an_d trends in nursing. Prerequisite: 400,412, 414,420.
450 Leadership/Management in Nursing - Clinical (5)
Clinical application of leadership and the ory in giving and directing care for a group of clients. Students may select experience from several clinical settings. 465 Rural Clinical Nurse Placement Project (3-4) A clinical enrichment experience for Community Health Nursing. An education al opportunity in rural nursing in northern California in settings such as home nursing service, public health departments, Indian health projects, rural physician's offices and acute and convalescent hospitals. Prerequisite: 430. Offered lnterterm only. TRANSFER/CHALLENGE POLICY For transfer nursing students, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses and other applicants with health profession backgrounds. General Policies 1. Applicants planning to challenge nursing courses must first be accepted by and fulfill all matriculation requirements of Biola University. The Department of Nursing should be contacted at_the time of application to the University. 2. Separate application must be made to the Department of Nursing.
