Dear Candidate, Thank you for your interest in the role of Head of Community Safety and Campus Security. My name is Rob Wadsworth and I oversee the portfolio of services that includes Security. This is a great opportunity to join the University’s Facilities Directorate (FD) in a key senior role. As we evolve from being a collection of services into a streamlined directorate, I am particularly interested in meeting candidates who genuinely enjoy and excel at strategic, collaborative working. Our business plan, Our Way Ahead, aligns to the University Strategy, and underscores our commitment to providing an excellent service to our students and staff. The post holder will implement the service strategy and plan, with the safety and wellbeing of our community at its heart. Community is key: a friendly, approachable security team that is embedded into campus life. Collaborative skills are also key as the role will work with colleagues across many different University teams, including those that are student-led. You will be a positive influencer and be able to actively engage with our diverse university communities, in particular to ensure events and activities on campus take place in a safe and respectful manner. You will have the skills to deal with challenging circumstances sensitively and carefully. The ability to build and maintain good working relationships with agencies across campus and the city will be essential. Managing a diverse team operating in shifts every day of the year also requires excellent people skills. We want all of our staff to feel part of the FD family and to be encouraged to excel and develop. Our services are expected to work collaboratively, supporting and enhancing the contribution we can collectively make to the University. This is a challenging role that balances daily reactive challenges on campus with a need to be an innovator and shape a new path ahead for a critical team.
