The Role We are seeking a highly motivated, pro-active Head of Community Safety & Campus Security to play a key role in creating a campus which is safe for all to use and in which they feel secure. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Campus Services & Engagement, you will be responsible for leading our Security Services & Facilities Support teams, collaborating with stakeholders across the University to review safety and security related protocols and engaging with our vibrant, diverse student and staff community to effectively implement, embed and appraise them. Your role will require flexibility in communication style to: • Lead and inspire the Security & Facilities service by creating an inclusive and engaging team environment; • Process and relay technical and security related strategy, policies, data and recommendations to teams and partners; • Lead conversations with University stakeholders, exercising diplomacy at all times; • Engage with student and staff groups with compassion and inclusivity. Leadership • Leading Security and Facilities Services in line with the expectations set out in the Service Operational Business Plan and University strategic aims; to deliver a value for money and customer focused service, which contributes towards the overall strategic vision of the wider Facilities Directorate, in line with Our Way Ahead. • Recognising the evolving work and day-to-day experience of the Security & Facilities teams. Lead on associated works related to the Facilities Directorate “Our People, Our Culture” strategy • Developing a team of Managers, Team Leaders and staff through continuous review and appraisal. Translating University strategies into operational objectives, ensuring the roles they deliver are aligned to the services strategic plan, which focuses on continuous improvement and building positive relationships with our students, staff, and community. • Promoting and delivering leadership and management responsibilities in accordance with the University’s values and responsibilities and upholding University values through personal example and working practices.

security of the University and its staff and students; • To take part in the procurement of contractors appropriate to the service and managing external contractors, leading contract review meetings to monitor contractors’ performance in accordance with Service Level Agreements; • Develop services in line with quality management standards such as ISO management standards. Ensuring the service complies with documented policies, procedures, standard operating practices, acts upon internal audit findings and continuous improvement; • Responsible for compliance, maintaining and improving standards in line with accreditations such as ISO, Customer Service Excellence, SIA, Secured Environments, also taking a lead to align the service with new and emerging best practice in the industry; • To develop a sustainability plan for security and facilities services, that directly underpins the University Sustainability Strategy and key targets for improvement in line with net zero carbon and developing strong and sustainable relationships with our communities; • Ensuring statutory compliance in all matters relating to Security, including the development and maintenance of effective Health and Safety procedures, and keeping up to date with relevant changes in security legislation and current best practice, alerting management as required. Engagement • Ensuring that effective communication takes place throughout all levels of the service and that appropriate arrangements are in place for regular one-to-one and team meetings; • Collaborating with senior stakeholders across the University to influence decision making and provide input as appropriate on matters relating to security and community safety needs; • Communicating safety, security and matters of a critical nature to the Facilities Directorate / University senior management teams, providing advice and recommendations as appropriate.; • Developing and maintaining close and effective working relationships with community groups, neighbourhood policing and other multi agency partners and forge positive and influential relationships with the Police, the Home Office, and other security agencies as required; ensuring that the relationships we build reflect the values and

culture of our organisation; • Developing and managing services provided to key stakeholders in the organisation, (e.g. Residential Services, Sustainability, Health and Safety, Student Support, Faculty Facilities Managers) to ensure our services continuously evolve, are responsive and appropriate to students and staff needs; • Working with our marketing and communications leads, to design and develop effective and communication campaigns that will provide students and staff with relevant and appropriate advice about staying safe and secure whilst living, working at, or visiting the University and our city; • Liaising with Police, Home Office, Special Branch, and other agencies as required on all issues affecting security, including high-profile visits and events of all types which have a potential to create security concerns; • As part of a Leaders & Heads of Service team in the Facilities Directorate you will be expected to contribute to wider departmental objectives and create strong, positive relationships with your peers, supporting each other at times of increased work activity, or any other duties as seemed reasonable by the Director / Deputy Director. • These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post. Hours of Work The Head of Community Safety & Campus Security will be required to work flexibly as and when required to meet the demands of the business. In addition, the post holder will be required to carry out duties of ‘on call Duty Manager’ in rotation with other Managers in the service. This will involve being on call overnight and at weekends. There can be a requirement in certain instances to attend work to resolve/manage issues; therefore, the post holder must live within reasonable travelling distance of the University.

Operations • Ensuring that the campus is a safe and secure place for everyone who uses it; • Working with the Deputy Director of Campus Services & Engagement, you will plan and deliver change in line with the Service’s strategic plan; • Lead the development of strategies and policies to support the delivery of effective and professional Security service. Lead by example, sharing knowledge, and providing support to team members, as required; • Develop and maintain a Crime Prevention Strategy, relevant to the challenges faced by students and staff, informed by accurate data, crime, and incident statistics and that is responsive to changing external factors; • To lead the University’s locking and access strategy and the implementation of an associated improvement programme of work. To take a lead in the review, design, and continuous improvement of the estates security infrastructure including locking, access, CCTV, ensuring the service makes plans to improve in line with the University’s digital transformation plans; • To develop a risk-based approach to the design of security in all new buildings and major refurbishments, contributing to Capital investment planning, making clear business cases for security systems, processes and equipment that is cost effective, adds value, whilst managing risk; • Managing and controlling budgets, ensuring that expenditure is planned for, monitored and controlled in line with the University’s financial regulations; • Managing the availability of suitable resources and equipment to enable proper service delivery in addition to responding to changing customer needs, crime trends and incidents; • To plan and ensure sufficient resources for key and high-profile University events, e.g. Degree ceremonies, student recruitment activity (offer holder days / open days), conferences and events. • Advising the Deputy Director of Campus Services & Engagement on security arrangements associated with the University’s Critical Management Plan (CIMP) and Business Continuity procedures across our main campus and buildings based off site; • Leading on complex investigations, as required, where the process or outcome may be particularly sensitive or have serious implications for the
