Psychotherapy lilboratory Courses This series of elective courses is designed to effect a working integration of conceptual and experimental aspects of psychotherapy. Ph.D. students are required to take 12 units of PLB courses and Psy.D. students, 21 units. Each course includes both course work and supervised clinical experience within the psy­ chotherapy model follov.,;d in the specific course. Completion of RPSY 603 , RPSY 500, and RPSY 690 or their equivalent is required before enrollment in these courses is permitted. All PLB courses have limited enrollments and require permission of the instructor. RPLB 605 BEHAVIOR THERAPY (3) The observation, assessment and modification of human behavior, including operant, respon­ dent and cognitive models. Emphasis is on super­ vised client interaction. Prerequisite: RPSY 604 and permission of instructor. Elective . RPLB 613 PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH THE ADOLESCENT (3) Techniques and problems in psychotherapy with adolescents. Special attention is focused on the implications of developmental processes of adolescence on treatment approaches. Prerequi­ site: permission of instructor. Elective. RPLB 631 PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY (3) An in-depth study of the process of therapy giving special attention to the concepts of trans­ ference, counter-transference, resistance and in­ terpretation. Prerequisite: RPSY 551 , participation in individual training therapy and permission of instructor. Enrollment must be planned for both RPLB 631 and RPLB 632. Elective. RPLB 632 PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY II (3) Continuation of RPLB 631. Prerequisites: RPLB 631 and permission of the instructor. Elec­ tive. RPLB 641 PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH GROUPS (3) The essentials of the group psychotherapy pro­ cess are examined and related to current modalities in psychotherapy and general group phenomena. Elective. RPSY 642 PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH CHILDREN (3) The nature and treatment of common emo­ tional and behavioral problems of childhood from a psychoanalytic developmental perspective. Spe­ cial attention is given to parent counseling. Pre­ requisites: RPSY 604, RPSY 641 and permission of instructor. Elective.

RPSY 706 THE PROFESSIONAL PRACTITIONER (3)

RPSY 721 DISSERThTION RESEARCH (1- IO) Planning and implementation of a research project including literature review, problem defi­ nition , hypothesis formation, design, and imple­ mentation of field research , data analysis, and report writing. The student's dissertation research is supervised by a faculty chairman and commit­ tee. The final stage requires the student to suc­ cessfully sustain an Oral Defense of the disserta­ tion. Required for all doctoral programs and per­ mission of instructor. RPSY 731 INTERNSHIP IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY (0) Professional experience of a one year intern­ ship in a facility approved by the Professional Training Committee. Prerequisites: Successful completion of comprehensive examinations, course requirements, professional qualifying ex­ amination (Psy.D.) or professional interview (Ph D.) , and approval of a dissertation proposal. Required for all doctoral programs. Internship fee: $1 ,000 per semester.

Intensive consideration of the impact of psy­ chotherapeutic practice on the personal life and relationship of the clinician and the interaction between the professional and private life. Issues addressed include career satisfaction, professional decorum, interdisciplinary relationships and therapist impairment and burnout, and steps in­ volved in developing and maintaining a clinical practice. Elective. RPSY 709 CURRENT ISSUES IN PSYCHOLOGY (1-2) Intensive focus is given to a selected topic of contemporary interest such as grief therapy, foren­ sic psychology, National Health Care and psycho­ logical service. Elective. RPSY 710 SPECIAL TECHNIQUES IN CLINICAL PRACTICE (2) Intensive consideration of a specific technique utilized in modern clinical practice and requiring specialized training. Asingle major technique, such as the Halstead-Reitan Adult Neuropsycho­ logical Battery of clinical hypnosis, will be the focus each time this course is offered. Elective. RPSY 71 I SEMINAR IN ETHICAL AND PROFESSIONAL ISSUES (3) Astudy of the ethics of professional psychology and relationships to other professional individuals and organizations. Special attention is given to the American Psychological Association 's Code of Ethics. Required for Psy.D. , Ph.D. RPSY 712 INDEPENDENT STUDY (1-3) Individual mrk, directed reading or special problems in psychology Such mrk must be done with the approval and supervision of a faculty professor of record. The student is expected to submit a detailed course proposal and a bibliog­ raphy with a learning contract form available from the registrar's office. Required courses may not be taken through independent study. Elective . RPSY 715 TRAINING THERAPY (GROUP) (0) For official indication on the student 's tran­ script of required personal growth experience through group training therapy. Required for all doctoral programs. RPSY 716 TRAINING THERAPY (INDIVIDUAL) (0) For official indication on the student's tran­ script of required personal growth experience through an individual training therapy. Required for all doctoral programs. RPSY 718 DOCTORAL RESEARCH SEMINAR I (3) This is the first of a tm course sequence which Psy.D. nondissertation students can take as a par­ tial fulfillment of their doctoral research compe­ tency. This course includes an in-depth study of research methods in clinical psychology and expe­ rience in critically reviewing current clinical re­ search. RPSY 719 DOCTORAL RESEARCH SEMINAR II (2) Building on RPSY 718, this course involves writing an in-depth critical review of the research . literature on a selected topic in clinical psycholo­ gy
