RPLB 643 BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION WITH CHILDREN AND PARENTS (3) The nature and treatment of common emo­ tional and behavioral problems of childhood from a learning theory perspective. Special attention to parent counseling. Elective. RPLB 653 VOCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND PSYCHOTHERAPY (3) Astudy of vocational development and voca­ tional choice as a point of focus in psychotherapy. Attention is given to values clarification, person­ ality and adjustment factors , measurement of ap­ titudes and interests and decision-making skills. Special consideration is given to assessment tools, informational aids and supportive community resources within the context of integrating voca­ tional development with professional psychologi­ cal practice. Prerequisites: RPSY 642 and permis­ sion of instructor. Elective. RPLB 671 MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY I (3) Astudy of the literature and practice of marital and family therapy, with emphasis on diagnostic procedures and the application of specific thera­ peutic techniques to dysfunction within the mari­ tal dyad. The first semester emphasizes diagnostic interviewing in a clinic setting where students carry responsibility for psychological assessment, interviewing, report-writing and therapeutic rec­ ommendations in selected clients. Concurrent en­ rollment in a practicum offering opportunities for experience with couples and/or families is re­ quired. Prerequisite: RPSY 642 and permission of instructor. Elective. RPLB 672 MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY II (3) Continuation of RPLB 671. Major consider­ ation will be given in the second semester to issues such as premarriage, communication, divorce and sexual dysfunction as aspects of marital ther­ apy. Concurrent enrollment in a practicum offer­ ing opportunities for experience with couples and/or families is required. Prerequisites: RPLB 671 and permission of instructor. Elective. RPLB 681 SPECIAL PROBLEMS IN PSYCHOTHERAPY I (2-3) An advanced course in psychodynamic psycho­ therapy dealing with issues such as impairments of the therapeutic relationship , acting out, levels and timing of interpretations and psychotherapy with individuals suffering from disturbances in early object relationships. Prerequisites: RPLB 631, RPLB 632 and permission of instructor. Elec­ tive. RPLB 682 SPECIAL PROBLEMS IN PSYCHOTHERAPY II (2-3) Continuation of RPLB 68 I. Prerequisite: RPLB 681 and permission of instructor. Elective. RPLB 702 PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES IN CASE SUPERVISION I (2-3) Aseminar in case supervision. Students are responsible for supervising the professional exper­ iences of less advanced students. Prerequisites: admission to doctoral studies and permission of instructor. Elective. RPLB 705 BRIEF PSYCHOTHERAPIES (3) Models and approaches in brief interventions with special attention to crisis intervention, emer­ gency room work, as well as systems approaches (Watzlawick, Haley, M. Erickson). Prerequisite: permission of instructor. Elective. RPLB 709 THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES TO SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION (3) This course focuses exclusively on clinical ap­ proaches to assessment and therapeutic interven­ tion in relation to sexual dysfunction within the marital dyad. Prerequisites: RPLB 671 , RPSY 607 , RPSY 663 and permission of instructor. Elective. RPLB 710 EXISTENTIAL PSYCHOTHERAPY (3) Study and practice of the therapeutic relation­ ship and the process of therapy from a growth or actualization perspective, including the ap­ proaches of selected theorists such as Rogers, Gendlin, Perls and selected existential therapists. Prerequisites: RPSY 551 and permission of in­ structor. Elective. RPLB 711 ADLERIAN PSYCHOTHERAPY (3) The focus of this course is on the practice of psychotherapy based on the personality and fam­ ily dynamics elaborated in Alfred Adler's Individ­ ual Psychology. Attention will also be given to more contemporary views of such Adlerians as Dreikurs, Ansbacher and Ansbacher, Dinkmeyer, Mosak and others. Prerequisite: RPSY 55 I. Elec­ tive. RPLB 715 CURRENT PSYCHOTHERAPIES (3) This course focuses each time it is offered on a specific therapy not regularly included in Rosemead's curriculum, including such ap­ proaches as Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Ther­ apy, Psychodrama, Rational-Emotive Therapy, Reality Therapy, and others. Teaching personnel are drawn from the professional community of active practitioners of the specific modality to be considered. Prerequisites: as determined by the individual instructor. Elective. RPLB 717 GESTACT PSYCHOTHERAPY (3) The focus of this course will present the theory and application of Gestalt Therapy, for use with individuals and groups. This therapy, created by Perls and developed by Zwiker & Polster, focuses on personal growth and self-actualization. Elec­ tive.

RTHE 517 THEOLOGY AND BIBLICAL STUDIES I: HERMENEUTICS (2) Astudy of hermeneutical principles for sound interpretation of the Bible, including general rules and specialized principles for parables, types, prophecies and poetry Required for Psy.D., Ph.D. RTHE 518 THEOLOGY AND BIBLICAL STUDIES II: MATTHEW AND ROMANS (4) An exposition of these two books, their back­ grounds, themes, lines of thought through verses, chapters and sections, doctrinal significance, so­ lutions to areas of difficulty and relevant practical application. Prerequisite: RTHE 517. Required for Psy.D., Ph.D. RTHE 605 THEOLOGY AND BIBLICAL STUDIES III: THEOLOGY PROPER AND ANTHROPOLOGY (4) Prolegomena to systematic theology including its nature and method. The study of bibliology including revelation , inspiration, canonicity and authority of the Scriptures. The doctrine of God. Prerequisite: RTHE 518. Required for Psy.D., Ph.D. RTHE 606 THEOLOGY AND BIBLICAL STUDIES IV: RECONCILIATION AND THE CHURCH (4) The study of salvation, its provision in the person and work of Christ and its application to man. The church, including its inception, natlJre and organization. The doctrine of future things. Prerequisite: RTHE 605. Required for Psy.D., Ph.D. RTHE 625 THEOLOGY AND BIBLICAL STUDIES V: CHRISTIAN ETHICS (3) Astudy of Christian ethics in relation to di­ vorce, abortion, homosexuality, euthanasis, sit1.Ja­ tion ethics, environmental ecology and human control of human beings. Required for Psy.D., Ph.D. RTHE 730 INDEPENDENT STUDY (1-3) Individual work, directed reading or special problems in theology. Such study must be done with the approval and supervision of a faculty professor of record. The student is expected to submit a detailed course proposal and a bibliog­ raphyon a learning contract form available from the registrar's office.
