MASTER OF ARTS IN MINISTRY CURRICULUM The Master of Arts in Ministiy curriculum in cludes courses in three categories: I) core cur riculum, 32 units; 2) ministiy emphasis, 14-28 units; and 3) electives, 4- 18 units . The total re quirement is 64 units. The courses specifically identified by depart ment and number in the chart below are required in the core curriculum. In addition , each student must select a ministiy ~mphasis and complete the requirements of that emphasis during the pro gram. Three emphases are currently offered: pas toral , missions and Christian education. The courses required in each are listed below. The following chart presents the curriculum sequence for students who will be "full-time" in the program. Students who are unable tomeet the academic requirements for admission listed below are en couraged to consider the M.A. in Ministiy Prereq uisite Track, page G-8. A. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS I. Completion of five years in ministiy and presently on a church staff in an official capacity. 2. Participation in the Master of Arts program in Ministiy presumes a significant level of ministiy experienced and personal maturi ty For this reason , applicants must be at least 30 years of age, and the degree is rarelygranted to persons less than 35 years of age. 3. Applicants usually will not have the B.A. or equivalent degree. Talbot offers other pro grams for applicants who have the bacca laureate degree. 4. Three references are required: church or de nominational endorsement; personal friend; and ministiy colleague (or employer if cur rently employed outside the church). B. ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS 1. Equivalency of two years of collegiate level studies. 2. Proficiency in English language. C. ADMISSION PROCEDURES I. The applicant 's potential to compete suc cessfully in a graduate program will be determined by the Master of Arts Guidance Committee, which will interview each ap plicant and evaluate all credentials. 2. Each approved applicant will be enrolled tentatively in the Master of Arts in Ministiy program until 32 units have been complet ed, of which 24 must be in core courses as described below. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MASTERS OF ARTS IN MINISTRY A. Satisfactorily complete 64 semester units as outlined in the curriculum. B. Qualify for candidacy status at the conclusion of 32 units. At the completion of 32 units, an evaluation will be made regarding admission to candidacy status in the Master of Arts in Ministiy program. Students with a grade point average of at least 2. 50 will receive candidacy status. Students with a grade point average between 2.00 and 2.50 will be allowed to com plete an additional 8 units (for a total of 40) to be credited toward a certificate in ministry C. Complete at least 24 units at the La Mirada campus and no more than 40 units at exten sion locations. D. Obtain a 2. 50 grade point average with no grade below "C- " in all courses to be cred ited toward graduation. E. Complete the entire program in no more than six years. F. Prior to candidacy status, students with a grade point average below 2. 0 are placed on probation and remain on probation as long as the single semester or cumulative grade point average remains below 2.0. After candidacy status is granted, the minimum grade point average is adjusted upward to 2.50, with pro bation calculated accordingly. Students on probation are granted one semester in which to bring their academic mrk up to the re quired level for continuance in the seminaiy.A student cannot graduate while on probation.

Master of Arts in Ministry Prerequisite Track It is recognized that some potential MA in Ministry students are unable to fulfill the admission requirements of the MA in Minis try program, particularly the requirement of 2 years of college level education . Such stu dents may select the MA in Ministry Prereq uisite Track. Its purpose is to provide the skills and foundational knowledge for en trance into and successful achievement in the MA in Ministry degree program. Curriculum for the Prerequisite Track consists of 27 units of specialized courses to prepare students for the MA in Ministry pro gram. Courses taken in the Prerequ isite Track maynot be counted toward any under graduate or graduate degree program in Biola University/falbot School of Theology. Satisfactory completion of all coursework will lead to the granting of a Certificate of Completion. Applicat ion may then be made to the MA in Ministry degree program, the only program for which Prerequisite Track courses and certificate are acceptable for ad mission. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PREREQUISITE TRACK 1. Completion of five (5) years ministiy experi- ence. 2. Must be at least thirty (30) years of age. 3. High school diploma or its equivalent. 4. Proficiency in the English language. S. Three references: church or denominational endorsement; personal friend; and ministiy colleague (or employer if currently employed outside the church).
