ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

THE STANDARD PROGRAM

II. Vocational Specialization - 2 to 4 Units With counsel from the department, the student designs the balance of the program in light of personal strengths, previous experience and voca tional goals. The major areas of specialization are presented below along with the major vocational positions to which they relate. In addition to the prescribed courses from the specialization, the electives are then chosen to complement strengths or to overcome weaknesses in light of the particular vocational goal. There fore , the structure of a student's program is genu inely tailor-made and may be noticeably different from another's program having the same special ization or vocational goal. Vocations or positions for which the program prepares the student are:

All applicants must hold the Bachelor of Arts degree or its academic equivalent. They must have a 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). Those accepted who do not meet this latter requirement will be placed on probation. Graduates from ap proved unaccredited colleges, if accepted will be granted provisional acceptance, though excep tions may be made when the grade point average is higher than 3.0. Both probation and provision al acceptance may be changed to full acceptance if the student earns a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better on the first eight units at Talbot. Graduates from ap proved unaccredited colleges may be required to take certain additional liberal arts course work (not applicable toward the graduate degree) , if their undergraduate program did not include these courses. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS A. Satisfactorily complete 66-68 semester units. See (D) below B. Take the courses prescribed in the Master of Arts in Christian education curriculum. C. 400 hours of supervised field ministry ap proved by faculty advisor. D. Complete the program in no more than five years. E. Complete an acceptable thesis (four units) or thesis project chosen in consultation with the major advisor or at the option of the major advisor and in lieu of the thesis or thesis project complete six units of electives. Students who write a thesis will have a total require ment of 66 units and those who take six units of electives in lieu of a thesis will have a total requirement of 68 units. Five unbound copies of the thesis or thesis project are to be submit ted to the librarian. F. At least 24 units must be taken at this semi nary. Astudent must have at least a 2. 75 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) to graduate. Students are placed on academic probation if their grade point average for any semester falls below 2.75, and will remain on probation as long as the single semes ter or cumulative grade point average remains below 2.75. Probation students are granted one semester in which to bring their academic work up to the required level (2.75) for continuance in the seminary. Astudent cannot graduate while on probation. MAJOR REQUIREMENTS The academic program leading to the Master of Arts degree in Christian education is structured to include (I) biblical and theological founda tions; (2) a core curriculum consisting of foundational courses and practical skills; (3) vo cational specialization; and (4) additional elec tive courses.

The program leading to the Master of Arts degree in Christian Education includes a mini mum of 68 units (or 66 units if a thesis is written). The student who is able to enroll in seventeen units each semester can complete the degree in two years. The student who enrolls for less than seventeen units will require additional time to complete the degree program, in which case the program must be completed within five calendar years from first enrollment. Athesis or thesis project maybe required of candidates. The thesis project is reserved for students doing excep tional work. Requirements for these are listed in the appropriate section of the Talbot graduate student handbook. THE REDUCED PROGRAM Graduation requirements may be satisfied in 48 semester units (or 46 units if a thesis is writ ten) if the student has an undergraduate degree in Christian Education with a 3.0 grade point aver age in courses taken in the major and a 2.6 overall grade point average. The undergraduate studies must include a minimum of 30 hours in Christian education and 30 hours in Bible/theology. Evaluations for reduction are considered for undergraduate courses with satis factory parallel content, provided that the colle giate courses are approximately double the unit value of the corresponding seminary courses.
