Prolegomena to systematic theology including its nature and method. The study of bibliology including revelation , inspiration, canonicity, au­ thority and illumination of the Scriptures. The doctrine of God, His existence and nature. Angels, both good and evil, and man, including his cre­ ation , nature and sinful condition. Prescribed for M.A. (B.S.) students. TH 606 SOTERIOLOGY, ECCLESIOLOGY AND ESCHATOLOGY (4) The study of salvation, its provision in the person and work of Christ and its application to man. The church, including its inception, nature as a living organism and organization. The doc­ trine of future things relating to the destiny of individuals, nations and the universe. Prescribed for MA (B.S.) students. TH 705 THE DOCTRINE OF INSPIRATION (2) The history of the doctrine; the scriptural evi­ dence for verbal and plenary inspiration and a refutation of all important denials of the infalli­ bility of the Scriptures. Prerequisite: TH 502 or the The history of the doctrine, beginning with the Fathers, traced through the Reformers and con­ tinued into the twentieth century, with a refuta­ tion of heterodox views. Elective. TH 707 ROMAN CATHOLIC THEOLOGY (2) Adetailed study of the tenets of Roman Ca­ tholicism; reading from representative Roman Catholic literature; particular attention given to the distinctions between Roman Catholic and Protestant doctrines. Especially helpful for those contemplating missionary service in countries dominated by Roman Catholicism. Elective. TH 709 CONTEMPORARY THEOLOGY (2) The study of contemporary theological posi­ tions, including a survey of the philosophical and theological thought leadillg up to the present scene. Prescribed for M.A. (T.S.), MA (Mis.) and Th.M. (Sys.Th.) students. TH 710 PNEUMATOLOGY (2) equivalent in Bibliology Elective. TH 706 THE DOCTRINE OF THE ATONEMENT (2) The person and work of the HolySpirit both in the Old and New Testaments with particular at­ tention to His ministries in this age to the individ­ ual believer and the church. Prerequisite: NT 501 -502. Elective. TH 712 CURRENT THEOLOGICAL ISSUES (2) An intensive study of the thought of particular contemporary theologians, prominent theological or theologically significant ethical issues in the light of biblical revelation. Elective. TH 717 THEOLOGY OF HUMAN NATURE (2) Exploration of key areas relating to the nature of man from both a theological and psychological perspective; the biblical nature of man in com­ parison to teaching theories of human develop­ ment. The meaning and significance of man created in the image of God; nature and dynamics of sin which lead to sins or psychological malad­ justments; practical application of the above con­ cepts to the areas of personal growth and disciple, education and child rearing and church ministry. Team taught by faculty with strength in theology and psychology Prerequisite: TH 605, TH 603, or equivalent. Prescribed for reduced M.A. (C.E.) students. Elective.

Designed for the student with background in the biblical and theological knowledge of soteriol­ ogy. Consideration of the nature of personal trans­ formation in regeneration, the means and dynamics of nurture including the relation of cognitive and relational aspects. Examination of the nature of spiritual maturity and its relation to psychological maturity and hindrances to growth. Team taught by facu lty with strength in theology and psychology. Prerequisite: TH 606, TH 603 or equivalent. Prescribed for reduced MA (C.E.) students. Elective. TH 721 THE THEOLOGY OF JOHN CALVIN (2) Treatment of the text of the Institutes of the Christian Religion, with consideration of his spe­ cial contribution to theology and the relevance of his thinking for our day. Elective. TH 724 ESCHATOLOGICAL PROBLEMS (2) 'fypical exegetical and doctrinal problems in the area of Bible prophecy. Lectures, assigned problems with written and classroom reports, dis­ cussion and library research. Elective. TH 725 THE DISPENSATIONAL SYSTEM (2) An intensive study of that system of biblical interpretation known as dispensationalism; its historical background, modern form and objec­ tions. Emphasizing primary theological and exegetical issues or disagreement betv.een dispensational and nondispensational positions. Elective. TH 728 THEOLOGICAL SYSTEMS (2) Several major theological systems of thought emphasizing those within the Protestant perspec­ tive , but also including significant Roman Catho­ lic and Jewish systems. Elective. TH 729 THE THEOLOGY OF THE GOSPELS (2) An examination of the theological teaching of Jesus as recorded in the four Gospel narratives. Special attention is paid to the chronological development of themes taught by Christ in the light of His presentation and rejection. Elective. TH 730 PAULINE THEOLOGY (2) The main themes of Paul 's doctrine from the biblical theological perspective. Prerequisite: NT 501-502. Elective. TH 761 DIRECTED STUDY (1 -4) Supervised reading and research in selected Acareful and intensive study of the three main eschatological views relative to the millenium; the historical and biblical strength of the premillennial system; consideration of the leading amillennial writings. Adetailed analysis of the four positions relative to the time of the rapture; a biblical and theological defense of the pretribulational view, with exegesis of crucial pas­ sages of Scripture. Prerequisite: TH 604. Elective for Th.M. students; others by departmental per­ mission. TH 806 THEOLOGY SEMINAR (1-4) Selected problems in the field of theology; em­ phasis upon independent research; extensive reading and written thesis required. THEOLOGY It is the purpose of the emphasis of theol­ ogy to give the student a thorough grasp of the great doctrines of the Christian faith. Based upon the Scripture as the ultimate source of authority the doctrines are devel­ oped through the systematic examination and integration of relevant Scriptures with consideration given to doctrinal interpreta­ tions throughout church history. Along with the acquisition of a knowledge of the the­ ological doctrines of the Scriptures, it is the goal of the department to develop in the students a facility which will allow them to continue their own theological development. TH 502 THEOLOGY I (4) The nature , method and rationale of Christian theology Revelation, both general and special, inspiration, canonicity, authority and illumina- · tion of the Word of God. The doctrine of God, including His existence, attributes and Trinitarian nature; and angels, both good and evil. Prescribed for M.Div. and M.A. (C.E.) students. TH 603 THEOLOGY II (4) Man , his creation in the image of God, his nature, fall and the effect of sin upon the race . The salvation of God, including the person and work of Christ. The application of salvation to men including election, regeneration, justifica­ tion, sanctification and perseverance. Prescribed for M.Div. and M.A. (C.E.) students. TH 604 THEOLOGY III (4) Astudy of the broad kingdom purpose of God and the future events relating to the destiny of individuals and history including the second coming of Christ in its phases, the millenial reign of Christ, the resurrections, the judgments and eternal state. The church, its inception, its nature both as a living organism and an organization, its ordinances, and its place and mission in the purpose of God. Prescribed for M.Div. , MA (C.E.), (M.F.M), MA (T.S.), M.A. (Mis.) and M.A. (Min.) students.
