Representatives from the healthcare organizations assisted in co-designing the outreach materials and messaging, reviewing and synthesizing summaries from focus groups, and providing key input on the outreach strategies, and disseminating recruitment materials to reach their Black and Latinx healthcare workers.
RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH)

organization, was founded as a place
where people could age in a home-like setting.
In March, 2016, Barnabas Health and Robert Wood Johnson merged the two health systems to form the most comprehensive health system in the state of New Jersey—RWJBarnabas Health. This new organization has a service area covering approximately 5 million people—more than half of the state’s population. The system’s geographic footprint spans Hudson, Essex, Union, Middlesex, Mercer, Somerset, Monmouth, and Ocean counties. RWJBarnabas Health’s recent partnership with Rutgers University has made it New Jersey’s largest academic healthcare system. This collaboration aligns RWJBarnabas Health, New Jersey’s largest healthcare system; Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; and Rutgers Health Group. The partnership also aligns RWJBarnabas Health with Rutgers’ education, research, and clinical activities, including those at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare. The system includes 9000 physicians and 16 hospitals, including eleven acute adult care hospitals – Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, Community Medical Center in Toms River, Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City, Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, RWJUH New Brunswick, RWJUH Somerset, RWJUH Hamilton, RWJUH Rahway, and Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston; three acute care children’s hospitals and a leading pediatric rehabilitation hospital (Children’s Specialized Hospital), a freestanding 100-bed behavioral health center, and ambulatory care centers, geriatric centers, the state’s largest behavioral health network, comprehensive home care and hospice programs, fitness and wellness centers, retail pharmacy services, multi-site imaging centers and two accountable care organizations. RWJBarnabas Health annually represents operating revenues of more than $4.5 billion, 260,000 inpatient admissions, 2 million outpatient visits, nearly 700,000 Emergency Department visits, 23,000 births, nearly 48000 employees, 9,000 physicians, and 1,000 residents and interns. Since then, Parker has led the way in aging services and has been committed to challenging, changing, and expanding the idea of what it means to grow older in America. Parker Health Group includes four nursing homes, an assisted living facility, 2 memory care programs, 2 adult day centers, a post-acute rehabilitation program, a health and wellness center, and several other community-based services for its senior citizens and caregivers. Parker is a diverse community of over 1,000 passionate employees, caregivers, volunteers, thought leaders, researchers, educators and partners leading the way in aging services. All programs include medical, social, personal, emotional, and physical support, which empower personal choice and enrich the lives of every resident, participant, and family member whom they serve. Parker partners in research with academic institutions, including Rutgers University, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and offers technical training at Kean University, and Seton Hall University, as well as various county and vocational schools. Additionally, it lends expertise to various organizations, participating on boards and committees, providing educational experiences, supporting and collaborating with research institutions, National, New Jersey Foundation on Aging, New Jersey Alliance for Culture Change, Healthcare Association of New Jersey, and American College of Healthcare Administrators. Parker at Monroe One of the Parker’s nursing and rehabilitation centers. Opened in late 2014, Parker at Monroe provides 24/7 person-centered and person-directed nursing care services, with memory care for individuals with all stages of dementias, who may also have complex physical needs. The campus consists of six “Small Homes” connected to a Community Center. Sixteen residents with similar needs and cognitive levels reside in each Small Home. The buildings and programs are designed to promote independence, dignity, and a sense of community among our residents.
