Professionalism, Demian Making and Military Legal Systems. ROTC is not acollege major but can provide 25 units of elective credit during four years of participation. Regular classes include training exercises and trips to Camp Pendleton, Fort Ord (near Monterey), and Edwards Air Force Bose; one exercise per term. Rappelling, helicopter trips ond familiarity with other Army equipment are opart of extracurricu­ lar activities ond training exercises. Scholarships ore available competitively on onational ond departmental basis. Four-, three- and two-year scholarships are available and range from S200 to $5,000 o year depending on type of award and tuition costs. High school seniors must complete applications for notional competition early :usually before December l st) prior to the year they pion to attend. Four-year scholarship winners must attend on institution ottering the four-year ROTC program. Two-year competitive, national scholarships are ovoiloble to sophomores and juniors who have at least two years of undergraduate and/or graduate school remaining ond who attend o six­ week summer camp prior to attending regular ROTC university classes. Completion of the ROTC program and commissioning will lead to positions of considerable responsibility, diverse travel to exciting duty stations and opportunities for rapid advancement. It is possible for interested students to enroll in the Army ROTC program ot the University of California, Los Angeles. on allowance of S100 per month during the school year Scholarships are ovoiloble competitively, in addition to the monthly allowance for all advanced course students. AIR FORCE ROTC Through arrangements with the University of Southern California and California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) both the two- ond four-year Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFORTC) programs ore available to □ II qualified, full-time students. Academic units earned in this program are counted os elective units toward fulfillment of graduation requirements. Successful completion of the AFROTC program leads to ocommission os on officer in the United States Air Force. Those students who qualify for and pion to enter Air Force pilot training will be given flight instruction as o part of their last year in either the two- or four-year program. Scholarships are available to qualified students on a competitive basis. All scholarship recipients receive full tuition, required fees and books and S l 00 o month. Students on scholarship in the first two years of the program must successfully complete a course in English composition within two academic years from scholarship activation. Students in the lost two years of the program must successfully complete o course in mathematical reasoning prior to commissioning. Students who accept oscholarship must agree to successfully complete at least one term of college instruction in omo1or Inda-European language prior to commission­ ing.
