The number of electives available ranges from srx to 20 unrls in the M.Div. curriculum. This is affected by such factors as: whether beginning Greek is lo be token; whether athesis is to be written; whether one elects to toke four unrts of exegesis in lieu of aBible exposition course. There ore other circumstances where the number of electives may be increased further, os indicated in the individual M.Div. curriculum charts. All electives ore open to the students' choice (check prerequi sites) regardless of major, but that choice may be governed by the following guidelines: 1) each major advisor, if he deems necessary, may require up to four units of electives in the deportment of mo1or study in preparation for the thesis in that deportment. The thesis must be written in the student's major field. 2) Those who will not wrrte o thesrs ore required to toke o minrmum of srx elective units in the field of their major At the advisor's discretion, however, the minimum may be increased to eight units. Program Reduction Based Upon Prior Academic Study Qualified students coming from approved Bible colleges or Christron liberal arts colleges may request exemption from certain required courses. Requests for exemption may be considered from twa perspectives: l) Program reductions ore poisible up to omaximum of 16 units from the normal M.Div. requirement, r.e., 96-98 units may be reduced by twa to 16 unrts. Areduction of os much as srx unrts (included in the 16) is possible for students with collegiate studies rn erther classical Hebrew or Greek. Evaluations for reduction ore considered for undergraduate courses with satis factory parallel content, provided that the collegiate courses ore approximately double the unrt value of the corresponding seminary courses. To qualify for such reductrons the student must have earned at least a "B" grade in the specific caurse(s) and be able to demonstrate competency in the subject matter. In the event the student takes acourse which had been previously waived, that previous reduction wauld then be nullified. 2) The substitution of electives in lieu of required courses may be arranged in certain circumstances. In some cases where one of the above criteria may preclude a program reduction, the student may nevertheless be able ta demonstrate asatisfac tory level af competency in a given subject. In this event, electives may be substituted for the course in question. Interested students wauld contact the appropriate department chai rman regarding course substrtutions. This alternative is alsa available for those wha qualify for the maximum pragrom reduction indicated abave Requests for program reduction should be submitted to the admissions and records office before studies begin at Tolbat, because reductrans for aspeofic course cannat be considered aher registrotian for that course. The substitution of electives in lieu af required courses may be requested anytime during the student's first year.
