Dissertation Research: Students in Rasemead's Psy.D. track may fulfill the research component al their program either by writing a dissertation ar by successfully completing aresearch consumership sequence (5units) which includes a year- long doctoral research seminar, a critical review of research literature on a clinical topic and a proficiency examination for consumers of clinical research. The major doctoral degree requirements are summarized below. (2) PRELIMINARY ORAL INTERVIEW AND ADMISSION TO DOCTORAL STUDY All students have an oral interview with afaculty committee to evaluate their progress and potential for successful campletion of the doctoral program. This interview is scheduled after the completion of three semesters in residence, including at least one practicum assignment. The results of this interview are reported to faculty which votes either to admit, admit with conditions, or not to admit the student to doctoral study. (3) COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATIONS All students must pass aset of four doctoral-level comprehensive examinations covering the following areas: l ) psychological development; 2) psychological functioning; 3) psychological intervention; and 4) psychology and theology. These examinations are given twice annually and serve as the major means of evaluating a student's suitability to continue studies toward the doctorate. The examinations may be taken any time after completion of 75%of the course work and must be successfully completed prior to the Professional Qualifying Examina­ tion. Only two retakesof the examination are allowed. The datesof the Comprehen­ sive Examinations are specified in the Academic Calendar. (4) ADMISSIONS TO CANDIDACY Official candidacy for the doctorate signifiesan advanced stage in the student's progress and is accompanied by aredefinition of fulltime enrollment which enables the student to place greater emphasis on his practicum experience, internship and dissertation, and less emphasis on formal coursework. In order to be admitted to candidacy the student must have: (a) Successfully completed the Preliminary Oral Interview (b) Passed the Comprehensive Examinations (c) Received approval of dissertation proposal by his Doctoral Committee. (d) Completion of training therapy.

" Second year students elect one of the following psychotherapy lab courses: Psychotherapy with Adolescents, Psychology of Exceptional Children or Behavior Therapy with Children.

*For students with undergraduatecoursework in social and physiological psychology. Students without undergraduate social psychology will take RPSY 608, Social Psychology, instead of RPSY 702, Social Psychology: Interpersonal Processes. Students without undergraduate physiological psychology will take RPSY 607. Psychophysiological Processes instead of Neuropsychology or Psychopharmacology. These alternative courses will generally be taken during the spring of the second or third year.
