SPECIAL PROGRAMS Courses offered cover the areas of art, Bible, theology, Greek, history, literature, mathematics, ·philosophy, psychology, biolog ical sc ience, sociology and other sub­ jects, including education courses for teaching credential candidates. Graduate courses in theology and psychology enable graduate students to continue tneir progroms during summer sessions. Credit is also available in connection with excellentforeign tours conducted during the summer. Tu ition, room and board are lower than regular charges at private colleges; total costs are competitive with state summer sess ion charges. See sect ion on financial information for summer session tuition. Certain courses or workshopsmaybeoffered in the summer that are not listed in this bulletin. Courses may be innovative or the content may be in response to specialized needs or current topics. Such courses will bedescribed in the separate summer session bulletin. Requests for the summer session bulletin, which is available about February 15, and application forms for admission should be addressed to the office of admissions and records. Admi ssion to the summer program does not presuppose or grant acceptance to the university for the regular school year. INTERTERM To facilitate the completion of graduation and also to allow exposure to creative learning and to enrich students' academic programs, the university provides an interterm program in January. Resident halls oreprovided for continuing on-campus studentsat no extra charge. Tuition charges are about one half of the regular school year charge. Separate prices will be available for meals during interterm. (Graduate psychology courses excepted.) Abalanced program of general education, Bible, elective and graduate courses is offered on campus. Opportunities also will be given to participate in travel and other non-traditional courses . ARMY ROTC It is possible for interested students to enroll in the Army ROTC program at the University of California, Los Angeles. Four-, three- and two-year programs leading to acommission asaSecond Lieutenant in the United StatesArmy Reserve or Regular Army are offered. All studentsenrolled in the final two years of the program receive an allowance of $1 QO per month during the school year. Scholarships ore available competitively, in addition to the monthly allowance for all advanced course students. AIR FORCE ROTC Through arrangements with the University of Southern California and California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) both the two- and four-year Air Force Reserve Officers Troining Corps (AFORTC) programs are available to all qualified, full-time students. Academic units earned in this program ore counted as elective units toward fulfillment of groduationrequirements. Successful completion of the AFROTC program leads to acommission as an officer in the United States Air Force. Those studentswho qualify for and plan to enter Air Force pilot training will be given flight instruction as a part of their last year in either the two- or four-year program. Scholarships are available to qualified students on a competitive basis. All scholarship recipients receive full tuition, required fees and books and $100 a month. Students on scholarship in the first two years of the program must successful ly complete a course in Engli sh composit ion within two academic years from scholarship activation. Students in the last two years of the program must successfully complete a course in mathematical reasoning prior to commissioning. Students who accept aschol arship must agree to successfully complete at least one term of college instruction in amajor Inda-European language prior to commission­ ing. BIOLA ABROAD B iola Abroad is an in-residence program offering an academic semester in Europe. Students are given the opportunity to brooden their perspectives and integrate learning with experience. To bring culture to life, classwork is richly supplemented by field trips. Classes are conducted in English ond courses of instruction and credits are the sameasthose on the Lo Mirada campus. Because of economic and political instability, programs abroad are under constant review. A strong effort is made to offer a quality program at a reasonable price. Academic semestersare planned with aGerman orientation each fall beginning 1988. Course offerings are primarily in the area of general education requirements an the sophomore level, but some upperclassmen with an interest in the humanities toward the B.A., B.M., or B.S. may apply. All participants must be full -time students and choose one from each of the five fallowing blocks of classes for 12-15 units of credit: Applications for the fall must be completed in January. There are other opportunit ies for travel each summer and occasionally at other timesduring the year. Tours ore directed by those with experience in travel and are offered at anominal price. Although these tours are not limited to Biol □ University students, it is expected that those joining atour will be in basic agreement withthe Christian viewpoint and the standards of conduct held by Biol □ University. In addition, it is expected that the individual 's health will be strong enough to stand the demanding rigorsof trovel. For information write to theoffice of admissions and records. SUMMER SESSION Agrowing and continuing summer session program provides students with the opportunity for a greater degree of flexibility in planning their total program. Students may enrich their course of study and reduce the overall time spent in school or decrease their regular course load by careful selection of summer session courses. Visiting students find it refreshing to study in adifferent atmosphere and perhaps adifferent locale and entering studentsfind it helpful in gaining advanced standing. Work taken may be applied to both the degree and the teaching credential programs. Instruction is offered in standard courses by the Biol □ faculty and capable visiting professors.
