Alternate route for meeting aminimum of four units of History l 00 and four units of History 200 or Political Science 200. Students who demonstrate proficiency in their knowledge of History l 00, 200 or Political Science 200 may opt for more advanced courses in these fields to meet their eight unit requirement. The respective deportments admini ster proficiency examinations twice ayear in September and February for those who wont to qualify for more advanced courses. History 470 (one unit) or Political Science 480 (one unit) must be token concurrently with any departmentally approved three unit upper division course in these fields to meet the four unit general education requirement in both history and political science. Philosophy 3 units Any one of the following will meet this requirement: 202 Introduction to Philosophy 205 Logic 30 l Greek and Romon Philosophy 302 Medieval Philosophy 303 Modern Philosophy 305 Ethics Physical Education 4 activities No activity may be token more than once for general education purposes, however, on intermediate or advanced class may be token. Students 21 or becoming 21 during their first semester at Biol □ University ore exempt from physical education requirement. (See page 45 for complete information on physical education.) Behavioral Science 3 units lntercultural Studies 300, Psychology 200 or Sociology 220. Check the catalog to determine which ma jorsrequire Psychology 200 as asupport course. Science/Mathematics 8 units (Computer scie nce courses not allowed) Eight units ore required in science and/or mathematical sc iences. Aminimum of three units in moth and three units in science is required. Biology l 00 with 110 and Physical Science 10 l hove both been designed for the student with a limited background in science. ELECTIVES Normally a student hos considerable freedom in the cho ice of electives in addition to the biblical studies and theology, general education and major require ments. However, in addition to the note given at the end of the biblical studies and theology requirements, the non-music major is limited to amaximum of eight units of credit in applied music (including ensembles) and the non-physical education major is limited to eight units of credit in physical education/recreation/comping activity or ski ll courses. STUDENT MINISTRYAND CHARACTER All undergraduate students carrying six units or more ore required to become involved in a weekly student ministry of their choice. Since a completed ministry each semester is required for graduation, arecord is kept of completed ministries. In addition to receiving satisfactory scholastic roting in all required courses, a student is expected to give satisfactory evidence of genuine Christion character and soundness of doctrine, and hove met all financial obligations to be eligible for a degree. Through a variety of Christion speakers and programs the student is mode aware of the purposes and program of evangelical Christianity throughout the world.

(equals third college semester) 'Conversotiona/ language courses may be used toward the 8.5. requirement but not the 8.A. requirement. Students with two years of ahigh school language must toke the l 02 and 20 l sections of the some language in order to complete the B.A. requirement. If the student needs to review prior course work •he should either audit l 01 or forfeit all previous language experience by toking the first semester course for credit. Exceptions to this policy ore noted under the appropriate deportments (please note the unit difference per semester for classical languages). International students for whom English is asecond language need not toke aforeign language. (If you toke a classical language for your foreign language you must toke it through the l 02 level for a B.S. degree.) English 6 units 11 OA/B Studies in Criticism and Composition Students with aSAT of less than 400 must toke and poss Basic English Workshop within the first year of residence (before English 110). If a student wishes to challenge his/her SAT score he/she may toke aDiagnostic Test administered by the English deportment. If he/she foils this test, he/she must toke Basic English Workshop, English 090 (three semester hours with no credit toward graduation). Note: International students, please see p.31 and English 103, 105 and 107. Literature 3 units 250 Introductory Studies in Literature (Must be World, English or American Literature) or one of the following (with consent of deportment) 360, 370, 440, 450 or foreign language literature. Fine Arts 3 units Any one of the following courses will meet this requirement: ART l 00 Introduction to Art ART 130 Introduction to Studio Arts History 8 units To fulfill the 8unit history requirement HIS 100 is required as well as either HIS 200 or POL 200. History l 00 The West and the World (four units required). Students who may hove completed three units of world civilization ore advised to toke History 110 Themes in Western Civilization. Alternate route for meeting History I00 is Humanities 230, Interdisciplinary Studies, which incorporates ot least one other general education offering. Humanities- Option 230 Interdisciplinary Studies (7) The shaping of human culture and thought to contemporary times, using ateam taught approach integrating History l 00 with participating general education offerings. Value of credits released is equal to that of the courses if token separately. History 200 United States History (four units required). OR Political Science 200 Survey of American Government (four units required). Students who may hove completed three units of United States History or United States Government ore advised to toke History 210, Themes in American History to complete the requirement.
