110 CHEMISTRY TOPICS (1-2) Vorious topics in introductory chemistry. Prerequisite: depart­ ment appro111I. 301 , 302 ORGANIC CHEMISTRY (5, 5) Structure and reactivity of carbon-containing compounds; em­ phasis given to mechanisms of organic reactions. Second semester includes structural biochemistry. laboratory emphasizes analyticol organic chemistry. Three hours lecture, six hours laboratory. Pre­ requisite: I06. lab fee : $30. 350 ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY (4) Asurvey of clossicol chemical methods of analysis such as titrimetric and gravimetric along with 111rious instrumental methods including electrochemical, spectroscopic and chromatographic. Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory. Prerequisite: Chemistry 301. lob fee : $20. 402 PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY I (3) The physical laws governing chemical reactivity ore investigat­ ed. Subjects include thermodynamics, kinetics, electro-chemistry and macromolecular behavior. 403 PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY LAB (I) Laboratory experiments in chemicol dynamics, kinetics, spectroscopy and quantum mechanics. Prerequisite: Chemistry 402. 404 PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY II (3) Quantum chemistry, molecular structure, spectroscopy, macro­ molecules and suriace chemistry. 411 , 412 BIOCHEMISTRY (3, 3) fundamental concepts of metabolism, bioenergetics, biosyn­ thesis and other chemistry of life processes. Three hours lecture. Prerequisite: 302. 420 SPECIAL TOPICS IN CHEMISTRY (3) Short subjects in such areas os the chemical literature, 111rious instrumental methods, polymers, orgonometallics and industrial chemistry. Prerequisite: departmental appro111I. 422 LABORATORY METHODS IN BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY (2) An integrated laborotory course to accompany 411 . Modern techniques in molecular genetics, metabolic processes, bioenergetics and enzyme mechanisms. Six hours laboratory. One hour discussion/quiz. Prerequisites: Biology 312 and Chemistry 411. Alternate years. lab fee: $30. 450 SEMINAR IN CHEMISTRY (I) Aseries of seminar topics dealing with current research subjects, 111cotionol opportunities, philosophy of science and faith. Every student presents one seminar on some area of research. Prerequisite: departmental appro111I. 480 SPECIAL PROJECTS IN CHEMISTRY (1-3) Research or industrial internships. Requires a written report. Prerequisite: departmental appro111I.

5) Elementary Teacher Credential Program. This option combines the C.E major core with California State Preliminary Credential course requirements. This specialization requires more units than the others do but some units in the CE. core ore substituted for credential requirements. 6) Pre-seminary in Christian Education. If astudent plans to pursue graduate work in Christion educotion, there ore specializa­ tion courses appropriate to o brooder foundation in specified areas. 7) Pre-seminary in Family Ministries. This specialization is designed to prepare the student for the graduate work in marriage and family ministries. 8) Pre-seminary in Pastoral Ministry. This specialization provides ostrong foundation in Christion education upon which to build o well-rounded pastoral ministry. Students wishing to do graduate work in the field of Christion educotion may wish to toke od111ntoge of the Master of Arts program offered at Talbot School of Theology. The undergraduate and graduate programs hove been designed to minimize overlap and to maximize continued development and growth of the student in the field. There ore three specializations designed for students who wish to pion for graduate work ot Talbot School of Theology. One speciolizotion is designed for the M.A. in Christion educotion at Talbot School of Theology, another for the Moster of Arts in marriage and family ministries and the third is the Master of Divinity degree. Detailed information regarding these oreas of specialization may be secured in the Christion education office or from any Christion education faculty member. Department Minor: To minor in Christion education, a student is required to toke 18 units including the following courses: 150,251 , 261 and one of the age level courses (372, 373, 374). five odditionol units ore also required which moy be selected by the student from any U . departmental offerings. Bible 220 must be token as the Bible elective. Christion Service Assignment: Christion educotion majors should choose assignments for Christion service during the fresh­ man and sophomore years that include experiences of Bible teaching. During the junior and senior years, the field experience requirements substitute for the Christion service assignment. General Education: The general educotion requirement for a foreign language for those majoring in Christion education de­ pends upon the number of years that were completed in high school of the some foreign language. Specific requirements ore listed under "general education requirements" for the Bachelor of Arts degree.

Anthony, Ed .D., Undergraduate Coordinator Faculty Objectives: The Christian education major is designed ta prepare its graduates for professional ministries in church and parachurch agencies and to provide ofoundation for graduate training. Therefore, at the completion of this major, the student will hove: realized his identity in relation to his position in Christ and his spiritual gifts and abilities; devel­ oped his gifts and abilities related to Christian ministries; demonstrated the essent ial knowledge and skills to study Scriptures inductively and to communicote biblical truths effectively; established a basic philosophy of Christian education which incor­ porates the biblical concepts of discipleship and leadership; demonstrated his ability to be sensitive to others as persons, understanding how people function in both individual ond group learning exper­ iences; developed and demonstrated his ability to function successfu lly in teaching roles and/or in leadership roles. Department Major: Acore of 30 units is required in specified courses which include: 150, 251 , 252, 260, 261 , 350, 360, 382, 450, 460, 490 and one of the following : 372, 373, 374. Bible 220 must be taken as the Bible elective. Associate Professors: Leonard, Radcliffe Assistant Professors: Anthony, Wilson Specializations: Each student is required to select aspecial­ ization of 18 to 23 units in addition to the 30 unit core. There ore eight specializations from which astudent may choose that reflect the broad variety of ministry options in this field. The diversified specialization allows the student to design o program that best suits his/her 111cotional interests. All specialization courses ore subject to departmental approval. l) Children. Vocotionol opportunities with this option include children's director or minister in a local church, o staff member with organizations that minister to children in the United States or on a mission field , a writer of materials for use with children. 2) Youth. Vocational opportunities for youth specialization would include a loco! church youth director or minister, a club director for youth parachurch agencies, a youth comp director, a Christian education director in o church that emphasizes youth or an assistant or associate pastor with responsibilities for youth. 3) lntercultural. Vocational opportunities with this option include service on a foreign mission field or service in one of the many subcultures in the pluralistic society of the United States. 4) Diversified. This option is for those who wish to design o specialization unique to their interests such as church-related comping, counseling, communication, business, music, computer science, etc.

Empha­ sis upon development of personal leadership qualities including Bible study, worship, prayer and interpersonal development which relate to spi ritual gihs and the church as on organism. 252 FOUNDATIONS Of THE TEACHING MINISTRY (3) Major emphasis upon learning theories and their application to teaching the Bible within the context of the local church and porachurch agencies. Also considered will be lesson planning. Prerequisites: none.
