Supporting courses: Three units of each of the following: inlercultural studies, sociology, Psychology 200 and statistics. The general education requirement for aforeign language for nursing majors is Im years of the some high school language or four units of a college language. Nursing majors are exempt from general education requirements of literature (3) and history (4 of 8units required). The annual Commi tment Service is financed by assessing each pre-nursing and clinical nursing student fifty cents each semester. 300 PROFESSIONAL NURSING SEMINAR (1-3) A transition seminar designed lo facilitate socialization into boccoloureote professional nursing. Designed for lronsfer-chol­ lenge students. 301 NURSING OF THE FAMILY I - THEORY (5) Implementation of the nursing process to facilitate adoptive equilibrium in the client. Includes normal growth and development af the young adult to the aged adult. (C) 301 NURSING OF THE FAMILY I - CLINICAL (5) Clinical application of the nursing process with adult clients in acute medicol-surgicol, convalescent and community settings. (C) Fee: $100.00. 302 NURSING OF THE FAMILYII - THEORY (5) Continuation.of 301. Implementation of the nursing process to facilitateadoptive equilibrium in the client. Includes normal growth and development af the infant through adolescence. Prerequisite: 301. (C) 302 NURSINGOF THE FAMILY II - CLINICAL (4) Clinical applicotion of the nursing process with clients in acute medical-surgical and community settings with emphasis on the surgical client. Includes Denver Developmental Assessment of a well child. (C) Fee: $100.00. 305 PHARMACOLOGY (2-3) Astudy of the chorocteristics of drug families, drug actions and metabolism, therapeutic uses, untoward responses, precautions and conlraindicolions. Principles for making sound nU1sing judg­ ments in the administration of medications. 310 BEHAVIORAL CONCEPTS FOR NURSING PRACTICE (2) Concepts affecting the role of the professional nurse in promoting adaptive equilibrium. One and one half hours lecture; one and one-half hour discussion. (C' ) 320 DIRECTED INDIVIDUAL STUDIES (1-3) Permits students to pursue special interests related to the profession of nursing. Open to clinical nursing majorsonly with written consent of instructor. Moy be repeated with different content. Maximum of six units may be taken for credit. 321 CLINICAL ENRICHMENT (1-4) Opportunity for additional application of the nursing process in selected health core settings. Prerequisite: NUR 301. 400 MENTAL HEALTH NURSING - THEORY (2) Concepts related to nursing of adults with problems of adapta­ tion resulting in psychopathology. focus is on the application of the nur5ing process la problemsof psychopathology. (C) 410 NURSING OF THE CHILDBEARING/CHILDREARING FAMILY - THEORY (6) · Implementation of the nursing process utilizing a family­ centered approach lo childbearing, maternal-child health promo­ lion and core of the ill child. 5. Demonstrate application of synthesized concepts related to stress/adaptation, developmental, interactional and systems theories in the pur­ poseful and systematic use of the nursing pro­ cess to facilitate optimal adaptation .through appropriate use of the prevention, conservation and restoration modes within the three interactional systems. 6. Identify and utilize knowledge of the relevant sociocultural and sociopolitical factors that affect the proctice of nursi ng and the delivery of health care services. 7. Demonstrate personal and profess ionol develop­ ment consistent with the goals of Biola Universi­ ty and baccalaureate nursing education. Special Note Admission Requirements : Admission into Biola University does not guarantee odmission into clinical nursing. A student moy be admitted ta the department of baccalau­ reate nursing upon meeting the requirements for universi­ ty admission, including: SATS, high school c~emisty and algebra with at least a grade of " ( " and /or passi ng an entrance examination in these two subjects, and (l ) com­ pleting the prescribed pre-nursing curriculum (ovailable from the nursing department) with aminimum grade of C (2.0) in chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and acumula­ tive G.P.A. of 2.5 or above; (2) taking the NLN prenursing exam; (3) filing the departmental application and paying the required non-refundable $20 deposit by Jonuory 15; (4) submitting proof of current certification in cardio­ pulmonary resuscitation through the American Red Cross or American Hearl Association ; and (5) meeting approval of the faculty of the department of nursing. An additional Sl 0.00 late application fee will be levied on those received after the deadline. Applicants whose educational and professional experiences qualify them for odvanced stand­ ing are welcome. Those intending to challenge nursing courses should make an appointment with the department of nursing as soon as accepted by the university. Requirementsfor Students Accepted into the Nursing Pro­ gram: Astudent is required to hove al his awn expense a yearly physical examination and specific laboratory testsand immuniza­ tions by June 15. Students will not be permitted in the clinical agency without this. Each student is assessed for liability insur­ ance through the university when participating in clinical courses. Recordof comparable liability insurance coverage for the licensed RN students must be an file with the department of nursing. The university and cooperating agencies assume no responsibility for illness or accidents occuring during the school program. Astudent must arrange for his own transportation ta clinical agencies as the university does not provide tmnsportation. The senior nursing student in community health nursing must have ovalid California driver's license and access ta acar. Valid CPR certification must be maintained throughout the clinical nursing ·program. Theory and clinical must be token concurrently in courses with o clinical component. Astudent must earn aminimum grade of 2.0 in each nursing course, and maintain ocumulative GPA of 2.0 in order to progress in nursing. Courses may be repeated one lime only. Studentswithdrawing al afailing level will be permitted to repeal thecourse one time only. Withdrawal of afailing level is permitted tm times only. Unsafe clinical nursing practice, regardless of GPA, is grounds for dismissal from the nursing program. Students who withdraw from nursing for any reason cannot be guaranteed a space when they plan ta return. Transfer-challenge students have equal access for open spaces in nursing courses. It is recommended that microbiology (BIO 221 ) be taken prior to Nursing al the fomily I and II. Studentsmust have acumulative GPA of 3.0 to take microbiology concurrent with Nursing of the fomily I. Students will not be advanced to level II without microbiology. Mandatory comprehensive NLN achievement exams will be taken al the completion of the nursing progom. Aminimum grade of Cis required in both microbiology and statistics.

410 NURSING OF THE CHILDBEARING/CH ILDREARING FAMILY - CLINICAL (6) Clinical application of the nursing process in providing family centered maternal-child health core in acute and community settings. (C') Fee: $100.00. 415 NURSING INDEVELOPING COUNTRIES (2) Implementation of the nursing process in developing countries where there is limited access to ophysician. Open to Registe red Nurses and licensed Vocotional Nurses and oil clinical nursing majors. Offered inlerterm and/or summer session only. 420 ADVANCED MEDICAi/SURGiCAL NURSING - THEORY (2) Implementation of the nursing process with adult clients experiencing complex disturbances in adaptive equilibrium. Primary focus is an pothophysiology in the physical subsystem (C) 420 ADVANCED MEDICAi/SURGiCAL NURSING - CLINICAL (3) Clinical application of the nursing process with multicultural clients in the acute medical-surgical setting. (C) Fee: $100.00. 430 NURSING IN THE COMMUNITY - THEORY (3) Combines nursing theory with concepts of community health and community mental heal th. Prerequisites: 400, 410, 420. 430 NURSING IN THE COMMUNITY - CLINICAL (5) Clinical application of the nursing process with individuals, famil ies and communi ties to promote and maintain adaptive equilibrium. Fee: $100.00. 441 INTRODUCTION TO NURSING RESEARCH (2) The research process applied ta nursing includes problem definitions and basic research design. Each student works on developing a basic research proposal. Prerequisites: 400, 410, 420, Statistics (may be taken concurrenriy with consent of instructor). 442 APPLIED NURSING RESEARCH (1) Opportunity ta critique literature, continue work on research proposal or participate in a research project. Prerequisite: 441. 450 LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT IN NURSING - THEORY (2) Combines theory of leadership and nursing core delivery systems with issues and trends in nursing. Prerequisites: 400, 410, 420. 450 LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT IN NURSING - CLINICAL (5) Clinical application of leadership theory in giving and directing core for a group of clients. Students may elect experience from several clinical settings. Fee: $100.00. 465 RURAL CLINICALNURSE PLACEMENT PROJECT (3-4) Aclinical enrichment experience for Community Health Nursing. An educational opportunity in rural nursing in northern California in settingssuch as home nursing service, public health departments, Indian health projects, rural physician's offices and acute and convalescent hospitals. Prerequisite: 430. Offered lnlerterm only.
