The number of electives available ranges from six to 20 units in the M.Div. curriculum. This is affected by such factors os: whether beginning Greek is to be token; whether othesis is to be written; whether one elects to toke four unitsof exegesis in lieu of oBible exposition course. There ore other circumstances where the number of electives may be increased further, as indicated in the individual M.Div. curriculum charts. All electives are open to the students' choice (check prerequi- . sites) regardless of major, but thot choice may be governed by the following guidelines: l) each major advisor, if he deems necessary, moy require up to four units of electives in the deportment of mojor study in preparation for the thesis in thot department. The thesis must be written in the student's major field. 2) Those who will not write a thesis ore required to take ~ minimum of six elective unitsin the field of their major. At the advisor's discretion, however, the minimum may be increased ta eight units. Program Reduction Based Upon Prior Academic Study Qualified students coming from oppraved Bible colleges or Christian liberal arts colleges may request exemption from certain required courses. Requests far exemption may be considered from two perspectives: l) Program reductions are possible up to omaximum of 16 units from the normal M.Div. requirement, i.e., 96-98 units moy be reduced by two to 16 units. Areduction of as much as six units (included in the 16) is possible for students with collegiate studies in ei ther classical Hebrew or Greek. Evaluations for reduction are considered for undergraduate courses with sotis foctory parallel content, provided that the collegiate courses ore approximately double the unit value of the corresponding seminary courses. To qualify for such reductions the student must have earned ot least a "B" grade in the specific course(s) and be able to demonstrate competency in the subject matter. In the event the student takes ocourse which hod been previously waived, that previous reduction would then be nullified. 2) The substitution of electives in lieu of required courses may be arranged in certain circumstances. In some coses where one of the above criteria moy preclude a program reduction, the student moy nevertheless be able to demonstrate osatisfac tory level of competency in a given subject In this event, electives may be substituted for the course in question. Interested students would contact the appropriate deportment chairman regarding course substitutions. This alternative is also available for those who qualify for the maximum program reduction indicated above. Requests for program reduction should be submitted to the admissions and records office before studies begin at Talbot, because reductions for ospecific course cannot be considered after registration for that course. The substitution of electives in lieu of required courses may be requested anytime during the student's first year. MASTER OF DIVINITY CURRICULA FOR MAJORS IN : Bible Exposition, Old Testament, Church History, Systematic Theol ogy, New Testament, Practical Theology. Two biblical languages are required: Greek and Hebrew Either may be taken firs t. GREEK: NT 505 (fall ) and NT 506 (spring) (four units each) each required beyond beginning Greek. Those who poss the examina tion may enroll di rectly in NT 505; the rest must toke NT 501 ond NT 502 (two units each) as prerequisite to NT 505. HEBREW OT 603 (fall) and OT 604 (spring) (four units eoch) ore required. A qualifying examination is available to interested students.
